Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Lauren Elise Simpson.
Dr. Lauren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started The Social Media Dr., LLC after going through downsizing at my job in 2017.
Thanks to my boyfriend I was trying to figure out how I can capitalize on my Instagram followers and I never intended on having a business mindset. However, not working full-time forced me to think outside of my box. I previously worked part-time for a Marketing start-up as a social media manager for her clients so I thought to myself why can’t I do that for myself.
The full idea came to me all in one evening: name, concept, logo design, and first client all within an hour. A little over a year later and I have 7 clients, 2 social media coaching clients, and a plethora of nonprofit consulting clients. I have now helped 3 clients become 501c3 nonprofit organizations. I founded Adjust Your Crown Mentoring Inc. on February 15, 2016. I have always had a passion for being a mentor since I could remember from Girl Scouts leader, Swimteam Coach, and a freshmen mentor at Middle Tennessee State University even as only a sophomore.
That year I won freshmen mentor of the year and that made me feel so good! Fast forward to the last year of my Dissertation in my Doctoral program young ladies kept reaching out to me on social media asking to mentor them but due to my busy schedule, I was not able to commit. The idea just came to me all at once to mentor a masses without a huge time commitment of a one-on-one, a virtual concept! It has been 2 amazing years! I am giving away the second annual scholarship in August.
In addition, we have in-person meet-ups, homeless shelter drive/feed annually, workshops, etc. There are now 250 members in the GroupMe and 550 subscribers on the website.
Has it been a smooth road?
I wouldn’t necessarily say a smooth road but it has not been hard once the ideas came to me. Mentees just keep coming and coming to where it has exceeded my expectations. I have also surpassed the number of clients that I expected. I would say I wish I started sooner but I had to experience different things to get to this point. But I can honestly say God is behind both brands because it just flows and happens without force!

The Social Media Dr. LLC is a social media management company that specializes in small businesses. We focus on managing Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn for clients in various sectors including Real Estate, Travel Agent, Reality TV personality, Clothing Boutique, Spa, Life/Career Coach, and Hair Extensions. www.thesocialmediadr.com @thesocialmediadr.
I am most proud of growing a providing excellent service for my clients and keeping them happy! Another proud moment is that I previously had no training in graphic design but I was able to learn social media graphic skills thanks to my friend Quenest and just trying to be a social media one shop stop. What sets me apart? My passion and attention to detail but most importantly my customer service personality!
As far as Adjust Your Crown Mentoring what sets my mentoring organization apart is my passion and my transparency. I have very honest and caring.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Social Media is here to stay. Although there have been several changes in the popularity of certain networks and consistency it appears Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn are not going anywhere! There are more and more businesses with social media departments increasing the career. I foresee more social media curriculums in Universities as well.
