Meet Dr Maja Durant of Dr Maja LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr Maja Durant.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
A friend of mine reached out to me with a business opportunity that she thought I would be perfect for. My love for travel and people, she thought, would make a perfect combination in owning my own travel business. While I was excited about the opportunity, I was still going to maintain my full time role in Human Resources and needed something that allowed me to work on my own timeline. As a fulltime mother with very active children, I wanted to do something that did not feel like work. Initially, I was gong to start by booking my own trips and maybe a few close family members. But, when a group of college friends came to me asking me to book an amazing tirp to Jamaica, I was hooked! I loved being a part of their dream vacation while making sure every detail was handled. Then, I got really excited and started sharing what I was doing with people I knew. This is where I started recruiting and supporting others who wanted to start their own travel businesses. I started my second business in supporting an amazing team of travel business partners.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been smooth. As a new travel business owner, I made mistakes. I was lucky to get referrals and clients, but you can never predict the unexpected. I learned very early to triple check every single trip detail to avoid mistakes. I have forgotten to double check documents, transportation and even additional fees. Time has definitely made me even wiser.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I help change people’s lives. While I own my own travel business, I also help introduce others to the amazing world of travel. With a team of well over 150 partners, I am there to support them with travel questions, travel planning and achieving their business goals. I am known for taking my full time profession of Human Resources and morphing it into a supportive environment for my business parters. I take their success personal and am always available when they need me. I am most proud of my ability to make them feel empowered and to help them achieve their business goals. When they partner with me, they feel like they are in business for themselves, but not by themselves. Together, we focus on customer service, honesty and integrity and making dreams come true. I also understand what it is like to be a busy mom, busy wife, busy professional and busy all around. I help my team perfect their business while juggling the business of life!

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have several leaders in my organization who have directly contributed to my success. Dr Sam Bond introduced me to this amazing opportunity. She connected me to 3 phenomenal leaders-Preston and Imani Scott and Debra Bond. Their patience and expertise in the travel industry gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed to be successful. They have created the blueprint that I emulate with my own team. There is never a time that these three leaders do not make themselves available to support me. And a specific callout to Preston Scott who is one of the most amazing leaders I have ever learned from. His expertise in the industry as well as his knack for leadership have directly contributed to my success. Imani Scott and Debra Bond are experts in booking travel and there is never a situation that they cannot assist you with. Their knowledge of the industry provides a high level of support and elimiates the nerves. And I cannot leave out my amazing team. They challenge, support and push me to be better every day.
