Meet Dr. Michelle W. Cofer of Cofer Legacy Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Michelle W. Cofer

Hi Dr. Michelle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in the projects but 2 things I can recall, I always felt God was with me and I have always had an affinity towards wealth. I can recall as young as 5 or 6 pretending to be on a yacht or wearing my grandmother’s big brim hats and imagining I was attending a lavish party. I used to imagine having a house with a circular driveway and pulling up in my hunter green jaguar with the peanut butter interior. Though I was surrounded by the reality of my life in the projects, I knew I wanted more out of life I was born into. I knew God had called me to be better than I was, and I accepted him and served Him at a young age. I was a leader and I loved serving at my church. Although my mother was drug addicted most my childhood life, she always stressed the importance of getting a good education. I excelled in school, despite have disciplinary issues. Upon graduation from high school, where I rose to the leadership level of Class President, I decided to go off to college and create a life for myself helping at risk kids. I figured it would be my way of giving back and showing people that if I can make it out of my situation, they could too. After multiple degrees and 16 years as a Social Services professional, I begin to realize that following the “blueprint ” of go to school and get a good job was not leading me towards the path I had envisioned as a young girl. I was broke. My credit was in the 500’s, and with a new baby I decided I had to PIVOT. While seeking out resources to improve my credit in 2017 so that my husband and I could move out of my moldy apartment and raise our baby in a home, I discovered that there was in income opportunity in the credit repair industry. That was the beginning of my journey. April 21, 2017 I started working on my credit, and astounded at the results, I begin to share with everyone I encountered. 11 months later, I was able to walk away from my job making $43k to tripling my salary. I went on to become a Certified Credit Coach and opening my own tax preparation business in 2018. In the years following, I have had multiple financial services to my portfolio and established my place as The PivotHER in the marketplace. I help families PIVOT 2 PROSPER. If an individual or a business needs personal credit, business credit, business coach, startup funds, business capital to scale, tax strategies, mortgages, will, trust, & poa, affordable health care, I can help. I will soon be adding Life Insurance and other investment options, which will complete my vision for operating a full service financial firm. Cofer Legacy Group has evolved over the years, and my objective is to help people find the path to financial freedom and understand that they are legacy creators. I wholeheartedly believe that you “don’t have to come from a Rich family, to become one”. Today, I honor my mother’s legacy and I reflect back to the days in the struggle. She taught me resilience, hustle, and overcoming adverstiy. My mother challenged me in ways she didn’t realize, and I am blessed that when I became a mom, she achieved sobriety and was able to spend the first years of my Entrepreneural journey as my biggest advocate and support system. Although she has passed, I am working diligently to complete a project to honor her. I have already purchased the land in my hometown and pray that I will soon break ground on a multiplex providing affordable housing to women who want to escape the projects and give their children a head start in life. I can’t wait to see the erection of “Skids Place” an affording housing community where the legacy of my mother will always be known and honored. Momma, I made it and this is just the beginning of the Cofer Legacy. s

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an entrepreneur certainly is not easy. I had to overcome the fear of rejection and get past the opinions of naysayers. I recall as I was planning to quit my job 8 years ago to pursue entrepreneurship full time, people calling my crazy and stupid for giving up a “government jobs” to “chase a dream”. I absorbed a lot of negative energy, and almost felt it was stupid to leave after having invested $136,000 in education. But, God gave me the courage to walk away and I never looked back. Other challenges have been creating flow and systems that allow you to manage your team and balance family. One of the biggest struggles, if I can be transparent, has been not creating more time for my marriage. I have admittedly, chased freedom and security that I have neglected my husband and prioritized business at times. Only because I can’t see myself going back to how things were. I can’t be broke again. I can’t struggle the way my mom did, and allow my children and future grandchildren so suffer in lack. In addition, sometimes family doesn’t understand or friends. When I am laser focused, I don’t care about events. I care about goal and target dates and that has rubbed people the wrong way. I am a certified goal setting coach, so it’s hard for me to set a goal and not pursue it. Other struggles have been learning to delegate and using technology. These are things I had managed in more recent years, but starting out I tried doing everything myself. Once I learned the principle of leverage and that it’s better to pay for things that wills save you time, I have been able to scale my business more efficiently.
