Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Radisha Brown.
Dr. Brown, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far?
My story begins in a small town outside of Charleston, SC. I am the second of five children. My mother struggled with alcohol and drug addiction so my grandmother raised us. After my grandmother’s unexpected and devastating death, my siblings and I were placed into foster care. After many foster home placements, I was eventually placed into the home of Karen and Alan Morton.
I had no plans of attending college because I thought that college was not an option for foster kids. However, Karen and Alan Morton explained that I could go to college and obtain an education. In college, I decided that I would focus on helping people to feel better about themselves because of my experiences with professionals that helped me to feel better about myself. I earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology, master’s degree in social work and then went on to earn a doctorate’s degree in business with a focus on organizational leadership.
I began my professional career in corporate America as a customer service representative and through hard work and perseverance; I rose through the organization to become a corporate strategist. I left the corporate world to pursue my passion to help others live their best life. I started ‘Holistic Living with Dr. Radisha’ to educate women about the connection between nutrition and mental health through holistic living. I want to encourage women to remove unhealthy mindsets to live on purpose.
I am passionate about mental health and have dedicated my life to fighting the stigma associated with mental health treatment. This passion opened the doors for me to host my own radio show Therapy Matters which airs weeknights at 9PM EST in Atlanta, Georgia and Central City, Kentucky. The mission of Therapy Matters is to educate listeners about mental health and to encourage those suffering from mental illness to get help. Therapy Matters has over 50,000 listeners each week and the number is steady growing. I am proud that my show allows everyday people the opportunity to discuss how they have overcome challenges to provide hope to listeners. You can listen to Therapy Matters weeknights at 9pm EST on the below stations:

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has definitely not been a smooth one, but it’s those bumps and turns in the road that has allowed me to hone in on my profession to better help others.
Mental health affects everyone but the biggest challenge that I faced in my business is fighting the stigma associated with mental health treatment. Despite the fact that 1 in 5 individuals have a chronic mental illness, almost 60% never receive treatment. I believe that the key to overcoming the stigma of mental illness is to educate individuals about treatment options and the benefits of seeking help. Despite the challenges, I enjoy helping women to improve their lives by changing their mind.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Holistic Living with Dr. Radisha – tell our readers more, for example, what are you most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others?
What sets my company apart is that I’m just a small town country girl who not only is using my work experience and education to help others but over time incorporated this process of holistic living in my own life. Basically, I practice what I teach.
Holistic Living with Dr. Radisha is a company dedicated to educating women about the connection between nutrition, physical and mental health through holistic living. We focus on helping women to create a healthy relationship with food. We offer courses, workshops, speaking engagements, and private sessions. We have been featured on a national television program, local news, and magazines.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love most about Atlanta is the availability of healthy food options. Whatever your diet restrictions are, you can find countless restaurants, grocery stores, and farmer’s markets to meet your need. Atlanta also has an amazing array of holistic health care providers.
On the other hand, the thing I like least is having to travel here and fight traffic to obtain those variety of healthy holistic options. I wish I could move a few of your stores closer to my place of residence, but until then, I’ll continue take that drive and refer others along the way.
