With joined hands and open hearts, Essentially Elegant serves communities through action and purposeful leadership. Founded in 2014 by Shakira Lynn, Essentially Elegant is a non-profit organization that empowers communities to create social change. Through interactive and supportive programs, Essentially Elegant seeks to improve the lives of both individuals and communities.
Our Mission
Essentially Elegant connects individuals, families, communities, churches and other organizations in a coordinated effort to build knowledge and promote education that strengthens our collective voice.
Our Vision
Through Essentially Elegant, communities will be empowered and individuals to develop personal and social transformation. We seek to address the issues confronting the youth of today by increasing their confidence, promote life-skills, and improve their ability to identify resources within their community that can contribute to growth and development. We strive to impact education throughout communities by offering the tools that students need to succeed in their educational career to make them successful in the future.
We envision a world where the youth of today become active leaders and passionately engaged citizens, impacting not only their own neighborhoods but also their nations. In transforming generations, we hope to engage adults within the community and prepare them to be tomorrow’s leaders through career development.
Has it been a smooth road?
The process of developing Essentially Elegant has been mostly pleasant as it was ordained by God. Some struggles along the way include gaining and losing our staff due to relocations. We aim to provide our youth with mentors in the area and it has sometimes been a struggle to keep mentors.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Essentially Elegant story. Tell us more about the business.
Essentially Elegant is unique as we strive to provide quality educational services to those living in our community. We specialize in teaching etiquette classes. We teach young girls the importance of developing their self-esteem and confidence. We provide education in building their self-esteem to make them amongst the most qualified students in their school districts. We are different from others because we are centered in our love for Christ.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, we envision Essentially Elegant growing to offer more programs throughout the community. We are starting our Urban Achievers program this school year. Our Urban Achievers program provides assistance to high school students to give them the tools that they need to succeed in their educational career. Our curriculum helps to improve students study skills as well as provide individualized academic instruction in reading, language arts, science, social studies, and math. Our Urban Achievers are eligible to apply for SAT, ACT, and college application fee waivers, scholarship assistance, college tours, and college admission application assistance. We also promote college readiness and will aid in the students’ transition from high school to post-secondary education.
