Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Taz Bhatia, Integrative Health Expert & Founder of CentreSpring MD.
Dr. Bhatia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Personal health challenges in my twenties combined with a broken health care system motivated me to pursue an alternative definition of health and healthy living. Early in my medical practice, as a young resident, I began searching for answers to my own health issues. Studying various systems of medicine, I found a wealth of information not yet taught in conventional medical schools. I opened my own practice, CentreSpringMD in 2009. The practice serves as integrative medical homes for the whole family – from pediatric care to adults, prevention, and advanced therapy for disease. I expanded with multiple locations and providers and the launch of CentreSpringMD Spa and CentreSpringMD Pediatrics.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would not call it a smooth road, definitely a road filled with lessons, learning curves and great joy. I think my biggest challenge was not anticipating growth, and not having the infrastructure ready to handle growth. I guess I was shooting low, which now I realize can be an entrepreneur’s Achilles heel.
Please tell us about CentreSpring MD.
We provide the best medical care by using an integrative approach to find a patient’s centre—their core—empowering them to spring forth into health. We are dedicated to relentlessly pursuing your health until you have the answers that you deserve to change the trajectory of your health. And that is what medicine should be. I specialize in integrative medicine and prevention, with expertise in women’s health, weight-loss and nutrition.
I am proud of the impact we are having on patient’s lives and the opportunity we have to empower women, children and families to be their best by achieving their best health. I am also proud that our work is nationally recognized and appreciated, which sets the stage for disrupting health care. Our unique is the patient story-everyone has their own story, their own needs and context. The moment we get away from the patient’s story, we will no longer be viable. Health care today is not about the patient, it is about feeding a machine that is wasteful, impersonal and heartless.
The heart of our mission is to find the amazing souls that breathe life into our city. We believe that what makes our city great isn’t the celebrities or giant, cookie-cutter corporations – it’s the artists, creatives, mom-and-pops, and local entrepreneurs who pour their heart and soul into their craft. What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Wow – it’s hard to comment on success since there is still so much to do, but I think I credit my schooling and my parents with instilling strong values of excellence, perseverance and hard work. I learned early on that to achieve, you had to break boundaries, understand sacrifices, and always stay true to your highest calling. I always want myself and my company to strive for excellence. It is part of our mission and core values.
