Meet Dr. Tenecia Hall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Tenecia Hall.

Hi Dr. Hall, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. A product of hbcu love. Growing up my mom always made sure that my hair was done and her best friend is a cosmetologist so I remember spending Friday nights at the salon getting dolled up. I feel as though this is where my love for hair developed. Fast forward to dental school. My friend convinced me into going natural and I had a classmate who had the most beautiful curly hair. I wanted to see if mine would do the same so I started working with it and training my curls. I developed a deep love for curly hair from then on.

I started Curl Friends Forever Instagram in April of 2017. I wanted a natural hair page where me and my friends could be featured and show what we love. The big natural hair pages have so many followers that getting featured by them is near impossible so there wasn’t a seat at the table and I decided to create my own table. My dream is to show curly-haired women that they can have the curls they dream about with time and effort especially black women with curls.

Curlfriendsforever.com is the home of the blog. This came about from me wanting to share what works for me to anyone that wants to read it. I also get questions sometimes about my regimen and I have a blog post on my regimen.

The name Curl Muva was given to me by a fellow natural hair enthusiast and I instantly fell in love with it. It gives me an identity under the Curl Friends Forever umbrella. Summer of 2020 I had several chat with friends I call “Goal friends” and we were talking about business. I knew I wanted to start a business but it was so many things confirmed within those conversations. Since then, my double-layer reversible bonnets have made it into homes across the country and even overseas. I will expand the hair care collection to help as many woman as possible care for their hair.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There has definitely been highs and lows for me on this journey. Right now I feel that I’m in a valley per se because I decided to enroll in grad school for another degree. This is taking up most of my time and I’m not able to promote as much as I would like. I’m still making sales just not at the pace I was before.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a dentist by day. I love my staff and my sweet patients. I enjoy especially working with children. It’s never a dull moment.

What are your plans for the future?
So far I sell bonnets and other headwear. I also worked as a social media manager for a brand and I do some influencing. I’d like to expand the products to hair tools within the next year. I’d also love to work with more brands as a micro-influencer.
