Today we’d like to introduce you to Dsto Moore.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Dsto. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a Photographer from Macon, Ga. I was born and raised in the Pleasant Hill Neighborhood. I have been doing photography for close to five years now, my wife Shatara and I started Lovely Portraits around five years ago, my wife was the first to do photography and I started after her.
I learned photography from a local Photographer named Darrell Moye who has a class on Mondays with other photographers that help beginner photographers learn the craft of photography, after learning the basics of photography I began trying new styles of photography from Fashion to Art, now my style of photography is known as “Real People photography” due to the people I photograph now during my projects. I have done a couple of projects over the past year like ” Macon Hidden Gems” and “The Macon Music project”.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road but if it was Easy everyone would do it. I have learned so much myself and others over the last four years, my photography has touched so many lives. I am known for being the Positive and Motivation guy because I’m always trying to motivate everyone to live there Dreams, over the last year it has really been interesting because on Sept. 13, 2018. I left my job and take a leap of Faith to become a Full-time Photographer, the first couple of months was Rough but I’m Blessed to have a Great support group.
A high school Friend of mine named Matthew Odom just happened to be a SUCCESSFUL Photographer and he have took me in under his wings and we have worked together on numerous shoots from Florida to North Carolina with big time publications like the New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. My wife Shatara Moore has really been my backbone during my whole journey, the high and low points she and my four kids have had my back no matter what. My Mother Yvonne Moore, Father Darrell Moore, and Sister Anica Moore has also been very Supportive on my Journey as well. I cant give up because my name is Dsto which means Dont Stop Trying Overcome.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
My company name is Lovely Portraits and we photograph Weddings, Events, Proms, Graudations, portraits, etc.,we pretty much do it ALL lol. One of our proudest moments as a company came earlier this when we awarded Parents of the Years at L H Williams Elementary school. The school that our two youngest children go to, we have had times when we have made some pretty good money on sessions but be awarded from a school because you put in over 120 hrs of volunteer hours in a school years was pretty special to my wife and I.
This year was our 3rd year doing our Family photo session during the school Family Engagement week, its gives parents a chance to take a Free professional photo with there kids. We did 50 Families this year, the memories that those families have from that sessions will last for years, that is just of one of the community we do to empower the communities and Neighborhood in Macon, Ga. Its Bigger than photography for us, we want to use our platform as business owners to Empower the next generation of kids to go after there Dreams, it’s really Deep.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I do believe Atlanta is Great city for a business. I can’t really give people advice on starting a business in Atlanta but I can tell them how I started our in Macon. 1st BELIEVE in yourself and the Craft and product you are selling, 2nd Network with people all over your city to gain relationships that you will need later in your business and 3rd HAVE FUN and Enjoy the journey. Remember that even the low points on your journey have valuable lessons in them. Always room for improvement, maybe by giving people from small cities chance to meet with people doing Great things in Atlanta, VoyageAtl magazine is really doing a great job with that in a way by highlighting people from All over Atlanta and Georgia.
