Today we’d like to introduce you to Dyemond Monet.
Dyemond, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been providing for myself financially since I was 15 years old. I stayed having two jobs and I never stayed at them for more than a year. If a year was coming up since I’ve been working at a job I felt like I had to find something better ASAP or else I would feel like I’m not getting anywhere. My mom said if I like getting my hair & nails done, wanted an iPhone, car, etc. I would have to get it on my own, and I’ve been hustling ever since. The idea of me starting my business came about a year or two after I dropped out of college. I can’t see myself working for anyone else for the rest of my life and I’m not passionate about anything that requires me to go to school. Which is ok, school isn’t for everybody and you don’t have to go to be successful. I started out doing lash extensions. That didn’t last long lol.
I’m very hard on myself and I’m kind of a perfectionist. I was good BUT I wasn’t as good as I wanted to be in a short period of time. I was comparing my work to other lash techs who’d been doing lashes longer than me (that’s where I messed up at). So I decided to sell the 3D mink lashes because: 1. I’m obsessed with lashes. 2. The first thing most girls noticed about me ARE my lashes. I always get compliments on them. When asked where I get them from I would always direct them to the beauty supply store, but why would I continue to do that when I can direct them to my site monethairco.com!
Has it been a smooth road?
No! I’ve definitely struggled, but I KNEW it wasn’t going to be easy. Nothing in life is, especially when you’ve been getting it on your own since forever. When you have a dream that’s bigger than you, expect for things to get tough. My faith has been tested numerous of times, but I never lost hope. You have to believe that GOD will get you through it and understand that the bad times don’t last forever. You have to keep it pushing, keep your head up and never fold.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the MonetHairCompany story. Tell us more about the business.
MonetHairCompany is named after myself, of course (Monet is my middle name). I sell real 3D mink lashes as well as raw hair (COMING SOON). My marketing and packaging sets me apart from others ( Please feel free to head over to monethairco.com OR @monethairco on IG to see for yourself 😁). I knew that if I was going to get into this business everything that I do has to be different. I also have what others don’t & that’s good customer service & professionalism. There’s so many black entrepreneurs who have great businesses but lack basic customer service skills.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The vision that I have for the next 5–10 years goes beyond MonetHairCompany. My business will be the first door to open into other business I plan on starting. I pray about it everyday and I can’t wait to show y’all what I’m capable of doing.
