Today we’d like to introduce you to Dyson Alexander.
Hi Dyson, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started making music when I was 11 years old. However, with football being my true desire, I never quite thought about taking music seriously. It wasn’t until I was 13 when the first song I recorded at age 11 was heard by DJ Storm (on WPGC at the time) from the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) area. He played my song one Friday nite on the live broadcast and The song wasn’t even released yet. Basically, I had to do some backtracking and get things in order and I’ve been going ever since. Fast forward to now, I just turned 21 years old and feel as though I’ve not only grown as an artist, but I’ve been able to develop my sound and continue to evolve as someone who can have a true impact on the game.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I feel like no true journey is ever easy or “smooth”. Some of my struggles along the way have been finding what works for my brand, as well as being able to adapt in such a fast-paced industry. I’ve learned that I absolutely can’t let up for nothing! This year my plan is to straight crush ‘em!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist/ songwriter. I don’t like to categorize myself as one particular “thing”. I don’t even like to say that I’m a hip-hop or rap artist, or even pop artist. I’m an artist because I feel like there’s is nothing that I can’t do. I make timeless music, and when I say timeless I’m talking about songs you can play years from now, later on down the line and still give you that same feeling as when you first heard it and the music doesn’t sound dated. I feel like that sets me apart from others because yes, I do make music in the moment, I don’t make it for just THAT moment. That’s not how I was brought up in this game.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was and still am very competitive. I was always a really good student in school, as well at anything I did sports-wise, specifically football. I also have always been very confident in myself. I feel as though when I jumped headfirst in the game though, I had to scale it back for a lot of people. You know, just playing politics and not coming off as cocky or “full of myself to others because certain people you meet along the way you don’t want to rub the wrong way. But the older I’ve gotten and the more I’ve grown the less I care about what others think. You’re either going to love or hate me.
