Meet Eazy of Yoga Playground

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eazy.

Eazy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My yoga journey started back when I lived in Maryland and I was living the party boy lifestyle doing a little too much of everything I didn’t need to. Just a really trash lifestyle. One day, I woke up and couldn’t breathe. I and my lady at the time went to the ER, and while sitting there I remembered, damn, I don’t even have insurance. So, we got up and rolled out! She suggested I try yoga cuz it was all about breathing. I said F, I got nothing to lose so I dove in doing everything I could find on YouTube and really started digging it. Shortly after we moved to the A together and down here, I started actually taking classes and that’s only cuz of Groupon cuz I was broke as hell at the time, haha. But the practice really helped me learn a lot more about myself and I wanted to really share it. I noticed that most dudes wouldn’t even wanna try yoga cuz they thought it was only for women. The whole time, most of the most swole dudes out couldn’t keep up with these ladies who were killing it. Once my homies started seeing me doing my thing, they started to change their mind about yoga and actually started giving the practice a try! That really pushed me to become a teacher cuz I felt if anyone could get more people to do yoga who never tried before it would be me! Here I am, five years later still learning, still sharing, and still loving what I do.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Helllllllll to the nah. When I first started, it was really tough to get in any studios especially me being super tatted and wanting to play rap and reggae in all my classes. So, I started teaching classes at Candler Park on the weekends and I had a few people who would show up but it was nothing crazy. Never more than five people. I wasn’t making any money off yoga, I was literally spending more in gas getting to class than I was making. But I knew my time was coming, I just had to find a place that could support the vibe I was tryna provide.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Yoga Playground – what should we know?
So, my style is called the yoga playground. The playground is a mix of yoga, calisthenics, and animal movements. I created this fusion of styles for people who wanted to stretch/breathe, build strength, and learn how to move their body freely but don’t have the time to individually focus on all these things. I also teach handstand classes and do trap yoga classes where we play nothing but the finest most ratchet songs we can find. I love how I’ve been able to play a major roll in getting so many new people into the yoga world. Every yoga space in the A isn’t accessible to everyone who wants to try, so I pride myself on creating the space that people who vibe like me can come and feel comfortable. I feel like my approach to the practice is what sets me apart. I curse, I play, and I make the classes fun.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
For me, the ability to connect to everyone no matter what walk of life they come from is what keeps me successful. I can vibe with the Wall Street brokers and the strippers out at strokers. It’s just what I do.
