Thanks for sharing your story with us Ebony. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My passion for hair started at a young age! I remember 5th grade, going to an awards ceremony and totally hating the way my mom styled my hair that day. As soon as I got to school, I took it upon myself to jazz it up the way I liked but made sure to fix it before I got home! Later on through the years, my love for hair grew. From people stopping by my mom’s house for a quick hair fix to me experimenting on my own hair, I knew this was what I wanted to do! I gave up a few times but finally decided to take it seriously!
Daisy’s Salon and Boutique, which is named after my Angel Grandma Daisy, has been open for almost a year now and is growing by the minute! I specialize in natural hair care and also color! Not only is it a hair salon but also a stylish boutique where I provide sizes S-3XL with today’s latest fashions. Lastly, I have a super talented Manicurist named Deviny (IG @whodidnernails) who is sure to get you right!! I’m a firm believer that none of this would be possible without God, my Family or faith! I pray that he continues to work through me so I can continue to put smiles on people’s faces.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
At times, you can be your own worst enemy! I gave up a few times but my support system would always push me! I definitely ran into numerous amounts of problems before finally opening but they were only lessons to learn. Being a first-time business owner isn’t easy but once I found my niche, it was on and popping!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Daisy’s Salon and Boutique story. Tell us more about the business.
DSB is a one-stop-shop, where you are guaranteed to leave feeling better than you came! I specialize in healthy hair and I’m also known for my hair coloring! DSB gives customers a personal one on one experience where clients are educated on their hair and are given a talk through on every step of the process.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I honestly don’t believe in luck. I’m a firm believer in prayer, working and individuality. I’ve always been taught to pray, I’ve always been taught to work, and I’ve always set out to be my own individual self. Those three things are a major key to me.
