Meet Ebrima Jarju

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebrima Jarju.

Hi Ebrima, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started making music in late 2019, right before the Covid-19 outbreak. I’m from New Jersey, but was raised in College Park basically my whole life. I was that kid that would listen to songs for the first time and try to learn the song like that. Eventually around middle school, I lost interest in listening to the radio. I listened to alot of underground rappers like Big Krit, Nipsey Hussle, Dizzy Wright, etc. I just always loved the message they displayed in their art. In college, around late 2019, I had a friend that was making music in our school’s media center studio (which I never knew existed and I’m a junior atp lol). But, in the studio with him, I was just there because I was bored and had time to waste. Sitting there listening to him craft up this song, it got me inspired so I followed him to the studio the second day in a row. He asked me to hop on a track, and at first I was reluctant but then I was like, “You know what? Nobody is gonna hear this and actually think I’m taking it seriously, so let’s do it, fck it!”

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been far from easy. Especially with me, you know, I am an introvert. I do not crave attention in any way. I like to be the fly on the wall and just chill in the background. With them trying to break into the industry of music, that’s one of my battles; settling the fight between my introverted side and my social side.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an artist. I like to say I make “good feel” music. When someone listens to any of my songs, the goal is to have your head bopping while you listen and experience the message or vibe I’m trynna provide. I dabble in all types of genres from hiphop, RnB, Afrobeat, and Dancehall. What sets me apart from other artists is my flow is very unique to me. Anyone that may know me well enough can tell you. I am most proud of the growth and development of my music and life personally. You can hear it in my music as I open the vault to life experiences and memories I have been thru.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about my city is the versatility. You see and meet all types of interesting people along the way. What I least like about my city the feeling of congestion. It’s entirely too many people moving here, lol. And it’s only raising our crime rate.
