Meet Ebru Ercan of e3 Design in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebru Ercan.

Ebru, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Ankara, Turkey and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. My creativity and love for art from a very early age guided me to pursue a career in architecture. As a child, my dream was to become an artist and I’m so excited to say that I fulfilled this dream. I graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Architecture and have practiced architecture both in the United States and Turkey. These experiences have enabled me to grow as an individual while gaining inspiration and strength from my dual heritage. Everything I do on a day-to-day basis stems from my culture, which results in depth and meaning to my designs.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Architecture and Design can be a tough field but I truly love what I do. You must really love architecture if you want to be an architect. It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Projects can be challenging at times – one of the most important things I’ve learned is that it is crucial to manage your clients’ expectations. As long as you are open, honest, and communicate throughout the whole process, things will always go smoother.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My firm, e3 design was envisioned upon a philosophy of creating holistic spaces from the inside out. Every part from the exterior to the interior contribute to the cohesive and meaningful making of the entire structure. I strongly believe in design excellence, creating spaces and objects for people to explore and the discovery of places and objects that reveal themselves in the materials and details. e3 design is an ‘idea house’- the realm where possibility and reality meet. The focus of my firm is not in attaining the largest commission, but finding opportunities to explore ideas, themes, and details at every scale while at the same time responding to a client’s needs, the context of a room or to a building site. I consider e3 design to be a Boutique firm with large firm experience. I am really excited to offer three components to each client: architecture, interior design, and custom furniture design. I can also bring artwork to the table as well. Not all firms provide all of these components, so I feel like this sets me apart from the pack. My firm is truly a one-stop shop that caters to each and every client for a custom tailored experience with a hands-on approach. I always try to listen to each and every client and design an environment that suits their style and needs but also integrate my style and signature. I’m also available to the client from the inception of the project until it’s completion. Being a perfectionist, I want to make sure the project is delivered to the client’s satisfaction.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been interested in art and design from a very young age, I was always drawing and coloring every chance I could get. When I got to high school, I took a drafting class and loved it. My teacher really encouraged me to look into architecture as a career and I never looked back! I also have played the piano since I was six and have always loved to read, explore, and travel. My whole life I have always aspired to be creative in everything I do..
