Meet Eddie Singleton of Reel One Entertainment in Sandy Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie Singleton.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started out in the music industry back in the day during the golden era of Hip Hop with a group called Reign of Terror.

As an emcee and lyricist, words were always compelling and influential to me. Also, I was a huge movie fan, so when composing songs for recording, I always envisioned them as miniature movies. We coined a term for what we did as Cinematic Hip Hop.

I knew one day that the time would come that, I would have to put my mic down so I started reading several books on how to write scripts. The enthusiasm alone helped me write and complete my first screenplay.

Not satisfied with just completing a script, I started sending off query letters trying to get Hollywood to buy my material, but I didn’t have much luck with that. That’s when my writing and business partner Martin Kelley and I decided we needed to just do our own movies.

Wanting to be a producer, I started studying the craft of producing and what it all entailed.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a roller coaster ride, with ups and downs just like the stock market. Simply put, it’s been a beautiful struggle. “No regrets. No retreat” I say.

As with anything you love to do challenges are part of the process and they either help you learn and grow or break you in two.

Some of the obstacles I faced, were trying to sell my screenplays to the Hollywood machine which is not as easy as you think just because you think you have a great script.

Asking investors to invest in one of your scripts to make it into a movie is as challenging as it gets.

Being on set with everything in motion and funding being pulled at the last moment, can cause a normal man to shatter into a million pieces, but for someone like me it was a galvanizing moment.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Reel One Entertainment story. Tell us more about the business.
Reel One Entertainment Worldwide is a film, television and multi media production company.

As one of the producers of the company, we are known for making quality independent feature films.

We are very proud of everything we have done as a company. Our goal was to do the films we wanted to do and what the audience wanted to see at that particular time. Some of the things that stand out on our resume: are being distributed by Lionsgate for a film called “Step Off” which can still be seen on most On Demand platforms right now, and having a small theatrical run with another movie called ‘Blackhats’. Which is now, available on Amazon Prime, free to see for Prime members.

And now, we are even prouder for our latest two feature films; a faith base movie called Full Count which is now in post production and the romantic dramedy, Beauty and the Beholder that has a trailer that is soon to be released.

What sets us apart from others is the fact that, we make high quality films for much less than most movies. We have mastered the low to no budget arena in filmmaking. We have a ‘hands on’ approach and a family vibe with our cast and crew from start to finish from pre to post production to marketing.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see the entertainment industry booming bigger than ever especially with the digital age in its infancy stage now. For example, I see big budget movies being viewed in peoples homes the same day as they are released in the theaters more than they are now.

I see theaters doing whatever it takes to bring moviegoers to see movies in a theater. Bigger screens, louder sounds, more actors to audience interactions

I see companies like YouTube, Apple, Amazon and Netflix on a whole other level as far as providing content for the everyday viewer.

I could see one of these companies having a family record themselves with their own phone cameras streaming live their own reality show.

I see technology playing a pivotal and creative role in the entertainment business over the next several years.

I see the state of Georgia taking over the number one spot as the premier place for the entertainment industry.
