Meet Eden York of Splendid Beauty By Eden in Loganville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eden York.

Eden, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After a nasty divorce from my childhood sweetheart, I turned to makeup as a distraction and a life raft; mentally and financially. It gave me an outlet to be creative again and to play with colors, shapes, techniques, etc. There was so much to learn and try. As my clientele began to build, I began to acquire clients that needed more than just an application of makeup. They needed permanent measures.

I could draw them on some eyebrows and cover up a scar or discoloration with makeup, but it would wash off at the end of the night. I began to research what I could do to help them and I ran across an Instagram video of someone microblading a pair of eyebrows. I was HOOKED. It was so realistic and custom made for that person’s face. You could make something from scratch with your hands and creativity. After a hard road, I was finally able to take class after class to learn how to microblade, use a cosmetic tattoo machine to give an ombré effect, and eventually learned other techniques like permanent eyeliner, lip blush, scalp micropigmentation, pigment & ink removal…the list goes on!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Like I mentioned, I was married very young to my childhood sweetheart and we divorced very soon after. I fell into a deep depression and honestly thought I would either lose my mind or die before it was all over with. I struggled for years financially. I was asking my brother, who was a young teenager at the time, for quarters so I could put gas in my car to make it to work. I worked seven days a week, 2-4 jobs at a time while living in my grandmother’s basement. There were weeks when I had to choose between bills or food. I would make $5 stretch for two weeks. I felt like an absolute failure and I was sure I would be stuck working crappy, dead-end jobs where I would be bored and my talents would go to waste. I became riddled with insomnia and would stay up all night every night researching makeup techniques and new releases just to calm my mind from spinning out of control.

Splendid Beauty By Eden – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My name was originally tied to makeup services, specifically weddings, special events, etc. My favorite style is avant-garde styles shoots that I collaborate on with my favorite photographer, Kev. (@O.S.Kev) After taking my microblading & ombré powder brow courses, I began to focus more on those services. As time passed and I began to improve my permanent makeup skills, my clientele began to grow even more and I was able to afford to take more and more classes. By taking those continued education classes, I was able to not only add services to my menu like lash extensions, but I was also able to apprentice and hire a lash technique who rocks the eyelash game! Between lashes & brows, our books are full and we like it that way! I am still a small business but in under two years, I went from directionless and broke, to being a self-employed female, employing others, becoming an instructor & brand ambassador at an advanced cosmetics academy, and becoming a private instructor under my own business name as well. I could not have pictured my mess of a life turning out to be what I have built today and I’m just getting started!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My version of success is setting an outrageous dream/goal for yourself and working so hard that you meet and surpass that goal while having matured and developed yourself and your craft along the way so that you’ve already set new goals for yourself by the time you cross goal #1’s finish line. (How many times can I say, “goal”?) In addition, also realizing and accepting that just because your specific plans didn’t come to fruition or your life didn’t turn out just so, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a path paved for you. My path to a very fulfilling and rewarding career was built from heartbreak and failures. The old cliché that says something along the lines of, “if it doesn’t scare you, you’re probably not dreaming big enough” is how I plan my next business moves!
