Meet Edgar Evans of Saturday Foursome in Sandy Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edgar Evans.

Edgar, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in the First Tee of Augusta program from 2001-2005. While at the First Tee, I obtained status in the Eagle Level as well as worked on the driving range after school. I learned many life lessons at The First Tee and picked up the important core value of Perseverance along the way. As I share some of my story, you will pick up on how perseverance changed the trajectory in my life.

After working hard on my game through high school, I parlayed my talent into receiving a scholarship to Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. Post-college I worked multiple jobs trying to stay afloat but realized that I was not living my dream. After a coming to God’s moment, I realized that my life’s calling was going to be in the game of golf. I left a well-paying managerial job at Sherwin Williams to go get a private club golf experience at Atlanta Country Club. My hope was that if I got a year of experience at a private club that I would then be qualified to work on a professional staff at a good club in the Atlanta area. The position that I took at ACC was for the cart staff and the pay was only minimum wage. After a summer of hard work, I was promoted to Assistant Caddy Master.

I continued with intense work ethic, and after a couple more months, I asked to be considered for an Assistant Golf Professional position that was available at the Club. After the interview process, I was offered the position as an Assistant Golf Professional. Since being promoted, I have been able to play in professional golf tournaments, become the head instructor at my club, and have authored my first golf instructional book entitled, “Flawless.”

I used the proceeds from my book sales to fund shooting a pilot episode of my TV show, “Saturday Foursome.” After the premiere of the show I decided to shoot three more episodes to create a full body of work. The show is now airing every Saturday in September on Peachtree TV at 10:30 a.m. The goal is to get as many TV and internet views, subscribers, and all the support as possible. My hopes are to be picked up by a major network by years end. Please view and share with family, friends and social media.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Achieving my goal of receiving a tv deal has been tough but smooth at the same time. I will say smooth because I am fortunate enough to work at a country club that has given me access to people who can help me out. The platform that I have here at Atlanta Country Club has given me the legitimacy needed to attract sponsors and fund my project. The biggest struggles have come from learning things on my own. Everything that I am going through is new for me from hiring film crews, negotiating sponsorships, and forming relationships with networks. Fortunately, I went to school for Marketing and it is really paying off now.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
My company is more than just the television show, “Saturday Foursome.” It includes my first golf instructional book, “Flawless,” more golf tv content, and community service. I make sure that every sponsorship deal has a community service aspect to it. For example, with Synovus, we will be doing golf clinics with financial literacy programs. People from our inner-city communities in Atlanta will be able to come to the golf course and rotate to different stations. Some stations will be financial classes and others will be learning how to play golf. With my golf sponsorships, I am running a program called “Good Clubs.” Money is raised and high-quality golf equipment is given to kids who love the game. Making sure I do my part in helping the underserved is what I stand for and believe in. I refuse to become a millionaire and not change people’s lives.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I won’t call it luck but pure blessings have changed my life. It has introduced me to the right people and placed me in the right situations. I will say this, the harder you work, the luckier you will become. If you are kind to people and do your best, things will shift your way. I truly believe that.
