Today we’d like to introduce you to Edgard Aguilera.
Hi Edgard, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well it all started when I moved down here from New Jersey in March of 2019. My family and I just decided that we wanted to start from zero, don’t get me wrong it was difficult for me because it meant that I was leaving everything but, at the same time, I knew that I needed change. I went through a bad depression during high school leading to the end of my adolescence. I always felt like I was holding myself back on doing the things I truly wanted to do. I was too worried on becoming a failure in life instead of taking control of it. All of that shifted once I made that change, I told myself that if I move down here I’m going to solely focus on my mental health. I started to think positively and believe that one day my life will get better and things will slowly begin to fall into place, whatever negativity that comes within I will just move it aside and keep on pushing forward. One thing that has always helped me cope through that dark time was music. Music has always spoken to me, whatever problem I was going through the moment, I would just put on my headphones and escape the world.
First artist I started to truly listen to was NAS. To this day he is my favorite rapper, listening to him made me interested in making music, but I never started until I was 22. For years I would always say freestyle whenever I was alone, or I would tell my friends whenever we would ride around to put a beat on. I started writing music in the beginning of this year, I was invited to a small kickback in which I met my dear friend who helped me produce my first song, Shy Suber, owner of Sushi Roll Records. Everyone there was so welcoming, and I felt like I was in the right place. There was one moment when a circle formed and people started to freestyle, you know I had to jump in and show them how us people in the east coast spit hahahaha. One person turned to me and asked if I ever wrote and in that exact moment, I don’t know, it just hit me to start putting the pen down on the paper. Ever since that night, I’ve just been experimenting with music and i fell in love with it, I found it to be very therapeutic. Music is not the only thing I am into though, I am into modeling, acting, and photography so I plan on fulfilling those desires as well. One thing I love about Atlanta is that there is a lot of collaborative work and support, so I’m glad to be here.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
To be honest, it has been going pretty good despite the pandemic happening right now, I’ve taken the time to really work on my craft and hope that when things start getting to normal, I’ll be able to have my first performance.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a songwriter, model, actor, and photographer. When it comes to making music, I always set myself alone in a room and listen to different instrumentals and whatever comes out of my head, I write it down in my notebook and put everything together, and I plan on making music independently . I also plan on making photography a business soon, so I will be doing a lot of shoots once it’s up and running. I gotta say, though, I am most proud of the creative thinking I put into my work, I really think things thoroughly and make it the best version it could be so I can put it out there and relate to the people of this world. What sets me apart from others is that I always try to find a way to have a successful life, if one thing doesn’t work out for me I will find another way. The ambition I have inside of me is very strong and that’s where I get my energy from.
How do you think about luck?
Frankly, I’m not a believer in good luck or bad luck. I am more of a believer in lessons and blessings.
