Today we’d like to introduce you to Edgardo (Eddie) Ramirez.
Hi Edgardo (Eddie), we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
You will always find me in the woods, on the river or at the beach, photographing even in the rain. Born in Panama, in Central America; I am Panamanian by birth and proudly American by choice. I purchased my first camera in 1989 on my way to college to the University of Costa Rica and have been documenting my life experiences ever since. About 11 years ago, I met my wife Doris, who after admiring my photos, suggested I consider Photography as a career. This motivated me to purchase my first DSLR then I quickly started making connections with the community of photographers in Atlanta, many of which who have become good friends.
Through many trials and errors in the field, is how I learned photography. I have been hired to photograph portraits, weddings, sports events, architecture however, I was always drawn to the beauty of birds in nature.
This attraction led me to dive into the vast and bottomless ocean of wildlife Photography.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
About four years ago, I decided to seriously dedicate myself to improve my wildlife photography skills. Then approximately two years ago at the beginning of the pandemic, for health reasons, connecting with nature was pivotal for me. Soon after quarantine restrictions were lightened, most days I spent over 10 hours photographing ospreys and bald eagles, in addition to numerous other species living at West Point Lake. I uploaded my photos to various community sites and quickly people in the area started learning about all the species surrounding us. This experience over the past two years has led me to understand, appreciate, enjoy, and connect with nature. I am now more conscious of the human impact on our ecosystem.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am currently preparing to start traveling and documenting my portfolio of birds as well as their habitat. I will continue to share my work with the community of photographers as well as look forward to collaborating with other photographers on some small projects. I keep striving to get my photos inside potential clients' homes and\or local businesses. I keep working on my own style of photography, on my brand, which is achieved in my opinion, after a long time. I am planning to expand my wildlife portfolio to include different types and styles of light, compositions, silhouettes, high and low key.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I remember when I was a child, we subscribed to the National Geographic’s magazine. This magazine motivated me, from a very young age, to walk around with a camera in my hand and document everything that happened wherever I went. Today I have many photos of my youth with friends, which we all enjoy sharing via social media. My love for photography was ignited thanks to the influence of the National Geographic magazine in my life.
