Today we’d like to introduce you to Elgin Nation.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Elgin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I became a creative the day I was born in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. I was eight years old when my mother moved my sister and I to the Metro Atlanta area, and it would be around that time when I really took an interest in the stage. My first experiences performing in front of live audiences would stem from imitating Michael Jackson in talent competitions. After landing first place in multiple showcases my family and friends encouraged me to push further on with music, and that stuck with me throughout my life.

In high school, I taught myself how to produce, write, record, and engineer all of my own music. After graduation, I began to take myself seriously as a recording artist. I would move on to release my first mixtapes and music videos while I was in college. The youth really gravitated towards my style because I was just like them, only I was doing exactly what I wanted to do with my life, all while being a student. My first accolade in the music industry would be winning the Sony Music Entertainment “A&R Southern Talent Expo.” Since then, I’ve been offered multiple recording deals but decided to stay independent due to the creative limitations involved in signing a contract. Independently, some of my first sold out shows would be at The Masquerade concert venue in Atlanta. I’ve also performed at The Fox Theatre, Center Stage, numerous big-name Universities in the South, and countless other renown venues for up and coming artists. Through relationships in the music world, I also had the opportunity to dabble in modeling, collaborating with The Clothing Warehouse in Little Five Points, Atlanta. Modeling and fashion are avenues I always wanted to steer into, so that was pretty cool.

As far as education, I earned my degree as a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. I am currently dedicating myself to the creation of an album in 2019. The exact release date is undecided, but I plan to hit the pavement doing pop up shows around the city, performing both new and old material in the process of producing the project.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s definitely been a bumpy road! The most difficult part of my journey was embracing my true self as a creative in the midst of popular culture. When I really started building up some buzz, I would make music that was easy to digest because I was young, and realized that the industry is like a magnet to those types of artists. I learned very quickly that it is extremely difficult to break out of that lane once everyone has this idea of who you are ingrained in their minds. I began to feel boxed in and went spiraling into multiple crippling stages of depression. For a long time, I was always under the influence of something, just to make it through the day. It’s taken me quite a while to pull myself out of that slump. I participated in a divination to seek guidance and even dove into a plethora of philosophical readings and metaphysical studies.

Then, one day I just decided to embrace the fact that I’m not a gimmicky artist. Deciding to go my own route definitely burned a few bridges, but I finally feel the pure vibrations of being an unraveled creative. I enjoy the freedom of f*** it. My sound has evolved a lot, both vocally and production wise. Everything is more melodic, soulful, or poetic in a sense. Over the years I’ve kind of naturally grown into this vision of a modernized prophetic rock star from the 60’s or something, ha. Now I’m here. Ready to rock and roll.

Elgin Nation – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am essentially the brand. As a songwriter, producer, recording artist, and visionary I take great pride in my work. Anything I release that could potentially be seen or heard by the general public has to sit well with my soul before I put it out, and I think people can feel that in my work. I’m known mostly for my wild live performances, and also for my eccentric style when it comes to fashion. Right now, I’m just doing me and having a great time, so I’ll leave it up to the critics to ponder what sets me apart from the rest.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Hm…Success for me is not measured by fame, having a lot of money, or anything like that. I’d say that being successful would be to open another eye within the people that they didn’t look through before.

I want people to really understand that we are all caught in this glimpse of time in which we have no true grasp of what’s actually going on. We should learn to appreciate the gift of life a little more while loving on others whom we have the opportunity to experience it with. Race, social status, sexual preference, and the things we possess do not make us any better or any less than the next individual. The idea of having to rely upon laws and glamorized occurrences of conflict for the vast majority of people to simply get along is absurd to me. So…

I’d like to make it cool for everyone to just embrace each other with open hearts, even if two people are distinctly from completely different backgrounds. The universe is full of prepense distractions nowadays that keep us all disconnected. I’ll know that I’m successful once I’ve encouraged the masses to work in unity to make the world a better place, for each other.
