Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Ashley.
Hi Elizabeth, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m the founder and candlemaker of Lizzy Shimmer Candle Co. I love to create wax melts and candle since the age of 10 years old at home with my grandma and mother I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA growing up on the “Westside” of Atlanta my grandma and mother did not allow me to go outside a lot. I learned how to make handcrafted candles as a girl scout member at my church. However, as a child this was a fun hobby and 25 years later as a single mom this is passive income and a dream coming true because I truly love to make candles and wax melts. As a full-time social worker with 14 years of experience, I love to motivate my daughter, so I created Lizzy Shimmer Candle online candle shop. As Lizzy Shimmer Candle grows, I hope to have a candle boutique in person. I truly enjoy seeing my candles and wax melts in home.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been smooth because my family and friends always support my online business. During December 2021, I sold so many wax melts and sold out of wickless candles at a holiday market event located at The Peachtree Tower in Atlanta, GA. Also, early this year during the month of February, I was invited to attend a Media Conference in Miami, FL where I was a candle vendor. However, since the cost of living increased for the past two months, my online sales has decreased but with prayer and support of strangers, family and friends I hope my online sale will increase.

Lizzy Shimmer Candle Company was founded 2021 during the pandemic as a social worker with 14 years of experience, I feel self-care is very important for everyone. I handcrafted lotion candles, wax melts and wickless candles in my home each item is made with love and care. Lizzy Shimmer Lotion candles are really unique because it’s a candle, lotion and a massage oil. Lotion candles are great for relaxing, and they leave your skin soft. Lizzy Shimmer wax melts are the best they are used in a wax warmer and bring amazing scents to any environment for at least 4 hours or more. Lastly, Lizzy Shimmer wickless candles are candles that do not have a wick. They are warmed using an electric warmer and last longer than wick candles and provide amazing scents at least 4 hours or more.
I am truly proud to say I make each item in my home by myself with love and care. Lizzy Shimmer Candles is founded by a proud social worker who truly loves to advocate for people and promote self-care. Lastly, the founder of Lizzy Shimmer Candle Company is an HBCU grad of Johnson C Smith University class of 2008 and a grad of Barry University class of 2011 located in Miami Shores, FL. I attended undergrad and graduate school out of state because as of Atlanta native, I want to explore other cities, but there is no place like Atlanta, GA.

Since I was born, I truly experienced a lot of blessings/good luck. As a new business owner Lizzy Shimmer Candle experienced a lot of good things such as creating self-care boxes that always sell out and customers leave good reviews on my google site regarding the happiness that my candles bring to their homes.
