Meet Elizabeth June

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth June.

Hi Elizabeth, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a licensed esthetician with over five years of experience and over fifteen years of love and obsession for the beauty industry.

After working in retail as a teenager, I went to school and worked in medical field for some time. I was burnt out and always had it in the back of my mind that my heart belonged in the beauty industry. After briefly studying cosmetology in 2013, I realized doing hair wasn’t my niche. I dropped out of cosmetology school and landed a management position at a high-end salon and just knew I was still in my element. It came so natural for me to be part of a team that made their clients feel beautiful and confident even though I didn’t want to actually do hair. During that time, I freelanced as a makeup artist for small events and photoshoots, as my love of beauty started with cosmetics as a pre-teen.

I suffered with severe acne during that all that time, and being in my 20s with acne was not fun for me. So I began researching and learning about skincare. I became very intrigued in skincare product chemistry and how different ingredients could change our skins’ health. I wanted to get more of a professional education so I enrolled into a Medical Esthetics program in 2018. And as a result of the knowledge I gained, I was able to eliminate the acne I dealt with entirely and wanted to share that knowledge with everyone so that they could also feel that same sense of relief and confidence I experienced when I healed my skin.

Although acne treatment is my first love, I became passionate about eyebrow design and cosmetic tattooing after working as an esthetician for a few years. I now own my own studio and offer services such as brow henna, brow lamination, powder brow tattooing and lash lifts.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an esthetician comes with its challenges. One of the biggest challenges is coming across people and celebrities on social media who share product and skincare hacks without having any proper education or knowledge about how the skin works or the quality of ingredients in products. As licensed professionals, we have to educate our clients on why our recommendations on treatments and products outweigh the general public’s beliefs in regards to skincare and products. It’s an everyday struggle, but it brings me joy that I can spread proper, educated, and science-based knowledge to anyone and everyone who asks. As a business owner, success has come very naturally for me. I truly believe it’s because I am passionate about what I do and am not in it just to make a quick buck. I care about the needs of my clients and wake up every single day excited to help bring out someone’s confidence in themselves by enhancing their brows, lashes or giving them smooth skin. I also believe outsourcing the things that I am not good at, such as business marketing and back-office business management, has helped me be able to focus more on my clients and not have to worry so much about all the other things that come with being a business owner. Your team can make or break your business, so having people who align with your vision, are reliable and trustworthy, and can bring skills to the table that you can’t, can really help!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I started my company, June Beauty, in 2020 without any knowledge about running a business but all the drive and ambition to make it a success. It started out as waxing studio and after finding my niche, I made some changes and started focusing mostly on cosmetic tattooing and brows, and now we have our own brand of brow cosmetics and body products!

I get told I am known for being the least painful Brazilian waxer and having the most random knowledge of how the skin/hair works and heals. I get called a “skin nerd” and I actually take that as a total compliment!

I am so proud of the perseverance and drive I have inside me to make this company a success. I have what some might call “crazy” goals and a vision for where I want this company to be in the next 5-10 years and every day I work towards making that vision a reality.

I think what sets me apart from others doing what I do is that I am honest about my struggles and flaws in my personal and professional life and am open about it! I also keep it real with my clients when it comes to treatment recommendations and always educate them on the best course of action for their beauty goals.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
This might come as a surprise to many people who know me, but I want to be an educator and/or coach! I have found so much happiness and success in the beauty industry and more so now as a business owner, and I want to be someone that can share my experiences and knowledge and spread it across the globe to help guide anyone in the beauty industry who also wants to be a business owner and needs guidance and direction without having to go through the trials and struggles that I did, personally and professionally. I still have a lot to learn and don’t want to step away from tending to my clients just yet, but I eventually want to add that onto all the list of things I’m already doing with my life! 🙂
