Meet Ellie Duncan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ellie Duncan.

Ellie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I lived in Wichita Kansas until I was in 6th grade. I started taking voice lessons there when I was in 5th grade but I had always loved to sing. In 6th grade when I moved to Atlanta, I continued to take voice lessons. My passion for singing grew and throughout middle school and high school singing is when I felt the most comfortable and the happiest. When Applying for College, I wasn’t really thinking of any other options other than singing. Belmont was the perfect fit for me because my Major, Commercial Voice with an emphasis in Music Business, allows me to sing the type of music I enjoy and I am able to learn about the Music Business industry and how to develop myself as an artist. I have a sister, Emery who is 13, and a brother, Evan who is 17. They bring so much happiness to my life and support me in everything I do.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road but because I love singing so much and it is truly my passion every struggle seems worth it when I am performing. My family has always been incredibly supportive of me pursuing singing. My dad has been especially supportive with my singing because he is a musician himself. He can play guitar, piano and has a beautiful voice. I love singing with my dad and he is the person who sparked this passion in me because he always sang with me when I was little and shares his love of music with me.

I have a sister, Emery who is 13, and a brother, Evan who is 17. They bring so much happiness to my life and support me in everything I do. My mom has always supported me as well from driving me to my voice lessons, to being my stage mom to everything in between. I cannot thank my family enough for everything they have done for me.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a singer who takes inspiration from blues and jazz styles.

What were you like growing up?
I was always a very bubbly, happy, silly child. I played most sports but stopped when that started to get in the way of music. I did musical theater and absolutely loved that.
