Today we’d like to introduce you to Emeka Willis.
Emeka, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2016, I founded Tropical Bliss Spa and Beauty Bar. I felt that people thought spas were generally considered luxury escapes. As a makeup artist for M.A.C. Cosmetics, I would always educate the customer about skincare. The majority of my feedback was, “facials are for the rich.” I was promoted to management at M.A.C after only being an assistant manager for only four months. I was given the goal to make 1 million dollars and exceeded with my team. A team that was consisted of at least 4 to 12 months of tenureship with the company. Even though, skincare was not a big seller in the company. I decided to target our skincare inventory. During Sunday Staff meeting sometimes instead of talking numbers, inventory, or artistry. I educated my staff on skincare and what factors to look for in their client skin. So, with every foundation, my staff sold a cleanser and or moisturizer. We exceeded out million and that’s when I got my “ah-hah” moment that I can do this on my own. I decided to open my own day spa and make it affordable for everyone so that everyone can enjoy and appreciate the results of having skin care treatments.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Entrepreneurship as a whole is a struggle. After cashing in my 401k I invested it in my brand, paid my rent for three months, and when that money ran out, the major struggle began, those struggles included building business credit. paying bills for the business/home, choosing what products to sell, marketing and my biggest struggle was getting capital.

We offer a wide range of facials, peels, microdermabrasion, microneedling, laser hair removal, massages, microblading and much more. We also have a menu for preteen and teenagers. We are known for affordability, results, and relaxation. I am so proud of my company because we always try to keep in trend when it comes to the skin care industry. Our atmosphere and music set us apart, we don’t play the cliche’ spa music, your services are performed to old school 70s, 80s love songs which everyone starts off singing along to, then eventually falling asleep.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is going outside in my neighborhood and playing foursquare. Those games would have you and your bestie stop talking for ten minutes to a week. LOL!
