Today we’d like to introduce you to Emel Mosley.
Emel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Let’s start with my name. It’s Emel, pronounced E as in eBook, & Mel as in Melanin. Emel. Ok now that we have the covered, I was born & raised in NY & relocated to Houston, TX in 2015. After three years I decided to move Atlanta & I’ve been here since Sept. 2018. I grew up with a pretty smooth life; a healthy two-parent home, involved in sports, dance, & the community. It wasn’t until after getting my bachelor’s degree that I faced any real rejection when I struggled to find a job. Thats when my confidence took a real hit, & looking back I can see why I didn’t have the best relationships or success in pursuing my goals.
About five years ago, I decided to step outside my comfort zone & became a group fitness instructor teaching a Dance Fitness class called Dance Xross Fitness. People think I’m crazy now when I say this was way outside of my comfort zone but it really was! It was my first real step in pursuing my goals of being in the fitness industry. In 2015 I moved to Houston for a change of scenery but specifically for love. That relationship quickly went south(literally & figuratively LOL). So, pursuing my goals & doing anything that I loved had soon become a thing of my past. I became depressed, out of shape, unhealthy, & completely depleted. I didn’t even recognize myself. Who was I? What did I even stand for? Where did my passion for life go? I had stopped teaching my fitness class and was so far removed from anything fitness. I ordered out to eat, watched Netflix, & had wine & popcorn with Olivia Pope. I struggled to identify my true passions & purpose. So through lots of self-reflection (& pizza & wine), I decided I would change my life. I realized happiness was something I had to create myself & it wasn’t just going to happen by chance.
In 2018, I decided to make my move to ATL. By this time I gained more confidence than I had ever had by putting in a lot of self-work. I realized that I did deserve to live my best life, mistakes & all. I began teaching my dance fitness class again, & started my own personal training business. When thinking of a business name it only made sense to go with the most profound thing I realized during this “rebirth” of myself. I AM ENOUGH! Those three words had resonated with me so deeply that months before I had it tattooed on my forearm. All I had to do was look down at my arm smile. My pain had turned into my purpose!
iAmEnough Fitness was officially birthed in October 2018. I now help women use fitness as a catalyst to start living their best lives by focusing on confidence building & providing a sense of community. Support systems are critical for growth in any area of life & iAmEnough Fitness provides both the physical & psychological work women need to reach their goals. iAmEnough Fitness is bigger than physical fitness but being fit & healthy will motivate you in all areas of life. Being fit has truly been a game changer for me & my goal is to inspire women to love themselves enough to invest in their health. You can’t have true happiness without taking care of your vessel! That’s why “iAmEnough” is a lifestyle for me. It’s a swag, an attitude of confidence with a kind heart for others. Truly the way I live my life.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road hasn’t been smooth but I wouldn’t change a thing. I have fully accepted & appreciate my struggles. Up until my early 20’s, I didn’t have any real grit. Looking back I realize why I didn’t understand unhappy people. I was always a compassionate person but struggling gives you another perspective. One I believe we all need. I struggled with finding a job after college which took a heavy toll on my confidence. That started a snowball effect of poor relationship choices & unhappy circumstances I kept finding myself in. I tolerated a lot of things from people that I shouldn’t have including simply saying yes when I wanted to say no. I struggled with putting myself first, a concept I have finally embraced. I struggled heavily with guilt & shame of my failed & abusive relationships. Struggled in my first business venture.
One of my biggest struggles was right before I moved to Atlanta when I took a job out of town. I signed an apartment lease, moved in the whole nine etc. only to be let go three weeks later. That wasn’t fun. I also suffered from a concussion on Xmas eve this past December, right in the midst of my business launch. That wasn’t so fun either lol. All of struggles have taught me lessons & made me stronger. No shame, no guilt & that in itself is pure success!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the iAmEnough Fitness story. Tell us more about the business.
iAmEnough Fitness provides personal training & group fitness instruction and is committed to helping women increase their confidence by getting fit & making overall lifestyle changes. I am excited to guide women on a journey that is much bigger than physical fitness. I am proud to provide a supportive community & the tools needed to tackle health & wellness from a holistic approach. Every single one of my clients looks themselves in the mirror after each session & speaks positive affirmations. Literally speaking life into themselves!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
“No I’m not lucky, I’m blessed yes!” (in my Nicki Minaj voice) I don’t live thinking or believing in luck. That’s just silly. We are where we are because of the choices we’ve made. I’m talking about adults of course, not children. And I do believe bad things happen to good people & those doing their best to make good choices, but those are moments & you cannot justify patterns by using this cop-out word “luck”. So I haven’t experienced any good or bad luck in life or business. God has given & taken away everything in my life with the exact recipe. I live in gratitude so I consider everything a blessing.
