The Quain Collection LLC: The Quain (/kwān/) Collection was founded in June of 2020 but came to life in May of 2021. Our founder, Emily Arthur, a first-generation Ghanaian-American woman, named this company after her great-grandmother and namesake, Patience Quainua. Our mission is to provide high-quality wigs and hair to our customers as well as a little bit of Ghana to them with every purchase. We also have a passion for early detection, treatment, and research of sickle cell anemia which is why proceeds from every sale will be donated to the Sickle Cell Center of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. TQC Beauty: We are a brand dedicated to providing you with memories in a bottle. We pride ourselves on telling our life stories and encompassing them in a scent for you. Since our conception, we have thrived for every piece of knowledge to provide you with a crisp fragrance.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth ride at all. There have been many moments of self-doubt and me questioning if I should even continue my business. Some of the obstacles that I face are many brought on by myself. I question why my business has slower months than the others. I constantly felt in the beginning that my work was not up to par, so I pushed myself very hard to get to a place that looked aesthetically appealing. Lastly, in the beginning, I was scared to even mention that I have a business or talk about it, but eventually I grew into becoming a business owner. If you’re feeling this way, it’s natural & I understand. Just don’t give up and keep on going!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am currently a full-time grad student studying Epidemiology and a part-time wigmaker and fragrance maker for my two businesses. With my wig business, The Quain Collection LLC, we specialize in glueless closure wigs and premium hair. In terms of my fragrance business, TQC Beauty, we specialize in deluxe fragrances that tell a story with every note. Both of my businesses and I pride ourselves on providing a great customer service experience while selling high-end products. We stand out from the rest because we incorporate our culture as well as knowledge into our products. Not only will we sell you a product, but we will show you how to use, tend for, and care for the product.
What’s next?
