Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric and Adrianne Meaders.
Hi Eric and Adrianne, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Eric and I are both student Pastors at Discover Life Church in Lawrenceville, Georgia. I, Adrianne, started working for the church in 2016 as the worship leader. Eric later joined the church in 2019. We began dating in 2020 and were married in 2021. It was at this point that we were offered the student pastor positions at Discover Life and happily excepted. We now lead weekly services with students from both middle and high school in worship and Bible study. While ministry had always been on Adrianne’s heart, it wasn’t necessarily a desire for Eric until after joining Discover life in 2019. But once he realized it was something he wanted to do, he went after it full force. And now, we are so excited to be able to lead together and help our students understand the impact that their faith can make on themselves as well as the world around them.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t always been easy. There were definite times of wanting to quit. Our church initially started meeting in a school. Once the pandemic hit in 2020, we quickly found that that was no longer going to be an option for us and had to be creative and come up with different and alternative ways to do ministry and continue in our roles and positions at the church. Just let us being creative and helping grow our online campus and ministry. Eric often took An interactive role with our online campus, where Adrianne helped build our communications and tech teams. During this time, we learned to be flexible and how we ministered and how we reached our community. While also keeping in touch with our congregation to the best of our ability during COVID-19. However, in late 2020 we were able to purchase our own property. That of course brings its own set of challenges but we were ready to face them head on. We learned what it meant to be leaders and focus on the needs of our congregation rather than the obstacles in front of us.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Discover Life Church?
We are a church for everyone. We are so focused on making sure our community not just knows who we are but knows that we care for them, no matter their background, culture, or social standings. Discover life is a church of great diversity and compassion. We believe that every person has a God-given purpose and we are here to help them Discover it and walk that out in a real and practical way. We love Gwinnett County and especially Lawrenceville. I, Eric, have lived here my whole life and have seen God move in ways beyond my wildest imagination. We know that what we have seen is just the beginning and we cannot wait to see what else God has in store for this city!
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Pursuit. We are of the firm belief that if you see something that you want to achieve being achieved by someone else you chase after that person, Desiring to learn as much as you can from them to gain the understanding that they have. You have to be intentional about finding someone that can pour into your life, whether it be spiritually or with a Mentor/Mentee relationship.
