Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Mackins.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Greenville S.C and relocated here in 2011 to pursue a degree in fashion. As I started the venture, I quickly ran into some hurdles that I wasn’t expecting. I quickly found a way to put my passion for fashion and style to life and that’s when I chose barbering. I started barbering school and within six months started to work in a local barbershop.
While working, I quickly begin to gain a following. I graduated May of 2012. February of 2014 the demand for my services took me to a level of no return and that’s when Him and Her Grooming came to life.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. There has been many struggles throughout the four years of business from staffing the right employee to personal struggles. My main focus for this business was to become a strong representative of something that would help build the community and change lives.
Please tell us about Him and Her Grooming Lounge.
My Barbershop has became a place where men and women can come network and receive a service that super exceeds their expectation. What makes me proud of him and her is the fact that I have built something that people can rely on and I can help change lives daily. What sets me apart from other barbershops in my area is that we are building a network where all walks of life can come and share.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory of my childhood is playing freely within my community with friends and family. I loved to share ideas and the most important thing to me was making friends.
