Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Shun.
Eric, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey as a Stand Up comedian started in 2007 at an open mic in Northern Virginia. I have utilized my professional sense of humor at military bases, colleges, production sets, and Comedy Clubs nationwide. My biggest acting role to date was playing a contestant on a Dating Reality Show starring @TheBsimone.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road in entertainment, especially Stand-Up, is bumpy and inconsistent. Coming up in the game, you may drive 300 plus miles to get your jokes in front of a different audience than your hometown. ATL is one of the three best markets in the country alongside L.A and N.Y.C Shows are constant, and audiences are saavy. I have performed every show thinking that I would be “discovered” by a casting director that would put me in the next Yellow Panther.
Please tell us about your work.
As an independent Artist, I book myself on shows four to twelve months in advance and am in charge of making sure I have travel and lodging for the gigs. If it’s a corporate or college gig, you relay your needs to the point of contact and then stand in front of Unsuspecting Comedy customers. The audiences at H.B.C.U’s are there for the show, and you can have the most energetic shows there.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
When booking yourself, you need to know that for every ten unanswered calls or E-mails that you may get one response, and it will be no. You have to be prepared with your comedy set within the time frame of the show and also stay persistent.
