Meet Eric Vinson of Dreaming Wild Photography in Valdosta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Vinson.

Eric, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My interest in photography started back when I was in high school. I was about 15 or 16 and I bought a Sony digital camera from Best Buy to take photos with MySpace and I just found the process of taking the pictures and editing them intriguing. I also really loved looking at other photographer’s work and saw the beauty in great photography. It never really matured past a random hobby then but in 2017, while I was a mass media major at VSU, I saw a lot of people walking around with DSLRs and I’d thought it’d be interesting to get one to take pictures with every now and then. Once I got my Canon T6i, I would just go out with friends and take pictures for practice almost every day. In the process of this, I fell in love with the art of photography and began to take it more seriously. Over the years, I have used each and every shoot as a learning experience to grow and sharpen my skills.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been easy but it’s been fun. As a photographer, there are many different struggles that come along as your business grows. The struggles for me have been growing the business aspect of it, like keeping up a good budget and marketing to gain new clientele. I’ve gotten a lot of great advice from my peers that have helped me improve in this area.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Dreaming Wild Photography is a freelance photographer company that specializes in various types of photography.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood has to be the time me and my family went with our church on a cruise to the Bahamas. At a young age, it was really fun being on a cruise ship and traveling to see the different islands. It’s also a funny memory, too, because I actually got lost and separated from my mom while on the ship. At first, I was a little scared but somehow, I shook it off and began to explore the ship on my own. Imagine being like 8 or 9 and you’re wondering around a cruise ship alone, wild, right? I’m just glad I didn’t get kidnapped or anything.
