Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Williams.
Eric, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My career began during my years in college, I was unsure of what I wanted to do or where I wanted to direct my attention. I decided on going to a college that offered a degree in Fine Arts of Game Design & Theory because I just loved playing video games, unfortunately, this was the last time someone could register for these classes as there were few teachers.
During these years, I met one important influence in a professor of mine; Donivan Howard. He showed me the world of being a professional artist and the process of learning, adapting, and creating characters, creatures, environments and more. I began to soak up as much knowledge as I could in the short amount of years that I knew him. From there on I began to teach myself and forge my path towards becoming a professional artist that I am today. Drawing and creating has become the reason that I do anything in my life. It’s a love and passion for designing, improving, and learning that I see every day.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome
As with anything in life, I believe there will be challenges but depending on the importance of what you want to achieve can affect the difficulty of those challenges. I don’t think there is an artist out there that could tell you it was an easy road. Creating for me comes with always wanting to improve with each new drawing, the thing you learn is those improvements don’t come immediately, they may not happen in a day, a week, or months but when they come it’s a feeling of happiness and accomplishment I can not describe.
A lot of the struggles come along with me going on this journey alone, staying motivated and supported through my learning can sometimes become a great burden. It becomes difficult to speak with friends or family as it’s unsure if they can understand exactly what you’re attempting to convey. It’s become a journey that has had its moments of blood, sweat and tears. Some days those moments come harder than ever and you don’t know if it’s worth it but remembering the passion, hard work, and dedication makes everything that you create worth it.
Please tell us about your business.
In my profession, I specialize in character concept art and inking. I am most known for my intricate inking style and being able to create a wide array of designs and characters. These skills allow me to give the best designs possible when creating a new or existing character as the little nuances can bring to light a new understating of a character.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far has been seeing the continuous growth that I have accomplished. This coupled with the understanding that I can continue to grow and develop my style further pushes me to become a professional artist that evolves and never forgets to stop learning. Moments like those continue to make me realize that being an artist was something that I could not stop even if I tried.
