Meet Erin Knight of Erin Knight Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Knight.

Erin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was at a crossroads in my career after my father passed away and I was left running the family business. I wasn’t interested in a desk job now that my family wasn’t part of the company which was why I worked there for over 20 years.

I consulted a career coach that was extremely helpful. She helped me decide to give my jewelry a chance. I gave it 6 months and LUCKY ME… I have a career that I love, I love the hunt, I love the design and I love my customers. I have met the most amazing people in this jewelry world. I was always looking for jewelry that no one else had. So, all of my pieces are unique and one of a kind. I make all the jewelry myself with beautiful vintage pieces from all over the world.

I started making jewelry by accident. I was shopping at AmericasMart for another one of my companies and I came across a jewelry supply store that had some jewelry on a display outside. I went in, purchased some things and made a small collection. I then contacted boutiques where I was a good customer and asked them to have a look. ALL of them agreed to consign a few pieces! The response was amazing.

I was contacted by a showroom here in Atlanta and my business really began to grow. A year later a showroom in Dallas contacted me as well and I now show there as well.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have been lucky because I worked at a small business and had a lot of business experience. The struggle, in the beginning, was finding vendors, balancing my schedule and learning to feel confident in my designs.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Erin Knight Designs – what should we know?
Erin Knight Designs is a unique jewelry collection. All pieces are custom made by me from hand-selected treasures found all over the world. I repurpose vintage pieces into a more modern look. I specialize in one of a kind jewelry that is always timeless and classic with a modern edge.

I am most proud of how fast my company has grown and the people that took a chance on me. There are several things that set Erin Knight Designs apart from the rest. I price my jewelry at a fair price, my customer service is stellar, and I provide personal attention to my boutiques and customers. I am accessible and put my customers first.

I have also had the opportunity to mentor young designers and new business owners. It is an honor that people look to me for advice and resources.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe in kindness. It is cliche but treats people as you want to be treated. Also, if you want it to happen to make it happen. It will not come to you so being persistent is a MUST!
