Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin and Michael Palermo.
hi note was founded in 2010 by husband and wife team Michael and Erin. It started on a whim, with close friends requesting help designing their baby shower announcements, wedding invitations, and other special event stationery. Word spread, and they became overwhelmed with requests for custom paper goods and invitations.
That demand turned into a full-fledged graphics and stationery company, hi note. Going on their 8th year of business, the ever-expanding hi note team has produced branding, paper goods, and countless other unique graphic elements for clients both close to home and around the world, some having upwards of 30 unique projects for their special event.
Has it been a smooth road?
hi note wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for a bumpy road. When the economy took a turn in 2009, Erin was laid off from her job as an Interior Designer. We started the business with the idea that we had nothing to lose, and 8 years later haven’t had the time to stop and wonder if it we were getting in over our heads.
Our friends, family, and word of mouth have taken us from assembling invitations on our living room floor to having the opportunity to open our own brick-and-mortar studio, which we were able to do early this year. However, with success comes larger and bumpier roads. In the midst of renovating and opening our new space, a fire in the basement damaged part of the office and most of our paper supply. We are very fortunate that the building was saved, and we are now finishing up the renovation a second time!
Anyone who starts their own business understands the mountain you have to climb in order to make it a success, Without eight years of experience and hardships, we wouldn’t have been able to overcome this latest headache. We are stronger and better because of it, and can’t wait to continue our plans to create more and grow.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with hi note – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We create custom branding, signage, and high-end paper goods for event, wedding, and corporate marketing efforts. Our educations are in the interior, industrial, and graphic design, so we love to brand events and spaces, not just create static invitations or logos that don’t tie into the overall event or culture of a company.
Our specialties and passion lie in our love for all things ‘graphic’. We love expanding our knowledge and are always trying to push the envelope with unique print processes and unconventional materials. We laser cut wood, leather, paper, and fabric in-house. This allows us to offer even more design options to our clients.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Our favorite thing to do together is going out to eat and we are fortunate enough to live in a city with what seems like limitless, amazing options.
The least favorite and most obvious answer is the traffic. A new restaurant opening every week makes it worth it, though.
