Meet Erin Wallace of Len + McAddy Candles in Woodstock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Wallace.

Erin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Len McAddy Candles is a creation birth out of being a new stay at home mom of three. After leaving the corporate world, to become a full-time mom, I wanted to create something that was mine, just for me. I never thought about owning my own business, I never thought I could, until one day, I started thinking, I love being a mother and wife, but I want my kids and husband to be proud of me for doing something other than just being a mom and wife. I wanted to create something for myself and others, to create an experience and bring light into your home. I thought, why not, start making candles, aromatherapy candles. I’m pretty crafty and creative. I started my research, I remember staying up late nights, just reading about owning your own candle business, researching essential oils and soy wax. I’m more of a natural gal, so, I knew I wanted to create something that wasn’t toxic. I wanted to create something that could actually change your moods, something that has health benefits. Anyone that knows me knows I will try my best to research a healthier alternative to any health issue I’m experiencing. I started off just making them for close friends and family, then once I mastered my creation, I started selling them to others. Today, almost one year after I launched my fourth child, I’m still learning, and growing. I can’t wait to share the Len McAddy experience with you!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not…I’ve learned so many things along the way. My first mistake was pouring my wax at a too high temperature while doing that; you will not be able to smell a fragrance at all. Thank goodness, my good friend was honest with me. She was my first client, but I was mortified that I sold her something that was useless. My second mistake was not including safety stickers on how to care for your candle. I sold two candles to my cousin that owns a spa, here in Atlanta. Once again, I’m so happy she was honest with me, but her candles didn’t turn out very good…haha! I learned that I once shorted myself at least $20 on international shipping fee. OOPS! I won’t do that again. I didn’t make any money on that sell, and I was out of money. I’ve learned, it’s okay not to be for everyone, everyone will not like your pricing, product, etc., and that’s okay. Everyday is a learning experience, and I’m sure I will have plenty more struggles along the way.

Len + McAddy Candles – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a small candle company. My company is Len + McAddy Candles, the name is a combination of all of my kid’s names, in some way. I hand pour each and every candle right in my own kitchen. I’d like to call my candles self-care in a jar. I use only pure essential oils. I work diligently to blend oils, based on its health benefits and fragrance. All Len +McAddy Candles are toxic free and made with 100% soy wax. I’m most proud of this creation; it’s something I love doing. I’ve found something I love, something I’m completely in control of. I decide where I go from here. Len McAddy is not just a candle; It’s an experience.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
That my customers love my product. I’ve done plenty of craft shows, and I get to have one on one feedback, and It’s been so awesome. I’m proud that I can create something for others to enjoy. It’s nothing like selling something YOU created.
