Meet Essence Renata of Essence Renata Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Essence Renata.

Essence, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My life in Atlanta plays an integral role in my journey into photography. It initially started 3 years ago as a Tumblr where I documented me exploring my life as an Atlanta transplant. When I moved my blog into a professional format, it was natural for me to want to upgrade my images. I started with cityscapes and neighborhood shots, Atlanta has so many beautiful, old buildings with character and I ventured into event photography.

I frequent art shows and I’m often out and about in the city photographing events, which landed me with booking the Uber x Phenomenal Woman Fireside Chat with Sarah Elizabeth Langford Reed. From there, my business has grown exponentially. I shoot everything from boudoir and engagement photos to events, and my knowledge of the city makes sure that my clients never had a boring shoot location or concept.

Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest obstacle I faced was getting out of my own way and finding the perfect way to marry my lifestyle blogging with my photography business. As a creative entrepreneur, I had to push back those crippling moments of self-doubt when there was a lag in gigs, and stay focused on end goal.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Essence Renata Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I am my company! As a body positive lifestyle blogger, I am the face of my brand, and my readers and clients feel very connected to my journey as I have shown building everything from the ground up. What I am most proud of is the variety in my photography.

I have photographed everything from toddlers to corporate events, and I always find a way to capture the essence of the moment. I always feel the happiest when people tell me the pictures I took of them make them feel beautiful or when people travel to shoot with me, it’s an amazing feeling.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
With social media, the sky is the limit. While it can feel that the market is oversaturated at times, it’s important to remember that only you can tell your story and with consistency and good content, you will reach your goals.

I feel that the market for photographers will only grow as more people launch their own businesses and need great images and branding.
