Today we’d like to introduce you to Eve Maiden.
Eve, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started Evie Peeve after taking a leap of faith and resigning from working at a tech company here in Atlanta. The company was an amazing company and offered great benefits and pay, but I was unfulfilled in my work and didn’t feel that I was reaching my maximum potential.
I had a bit of saving, so I decided to use that time off to recenter myself and to explore some projects and passions that I had been putting aside, due to simply not having the energy or time to explore them. During my time off, and I use that term loosely because I really explored and did so much, but I ended up completing and publishing a poetry book, I home-schooled my daughter for a year, I relocated to the west coast and lived for a year, and I created Evie Peeve.
Evie Peeve came about from my need to get back into a flow of being creative and creating things. I wanted to do something with my hands and to be able to take materials and to put them together to create something that I thought was unique and beautiful. I’ve been operating Evie Peeve for a little over a year now, and it has been such a fun adventure filled a lot of self-discovery. There are so many blessings that I’ve gleaned from starting this project/small business, but the biggest has been that Evie Peeve has helped me to discover that I have a deep passion and love for all mediums of art and design.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Mmm, it’s been a balance of highs and lows for me. I’ve found out that there are a lot of aspects about starting and maintaining a business that I don’t necessarily mesh well with. For example, the fulfillment and shipment process. That can be a very involved process when you’re handling all aspects of the business, but still needing to take time to package products and to physically go and ship them.
Another for me has been figuring out if my accessory pieces will be designed based from off of what feels good to me creatively, or based on what customers have expressed they vibe with the most. There’s also the thing with never knowing how many sales you’ll get from day to day, and coming up with other ways to supplement income.
The amazing thing about challenges is that they create new opportunities to learn from your low points and to gain new perspectives and skills. I love that.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Evie Peeve story. Tell us more about the business.
I believe what makes me unique, is what makes every other person on this Earth unique — there’s only one of each of us. With creating Evie Peeve, I was able to pour myself into it without needing to ask for permission or to waver on my first mind because of someone else’s opinion. Because I manage all aspects of the business, I was able to have a say and a hand in everything. From product design to social media and email marketing, to customer service, fulfillment, and everything else in between!
When I began EP, I wanted for it to be funky, colorful, weird, and just uniquely me. I wanted for it to be known for its authenticity and energy of amplifying self-love and acceptance and love of others who are considered different. What I’m most proud of is all of the lessons that I’ve learned along the way.
I’ve learned that things take time. That sometimes you will change your mind about something, and that’s ok. I’ve learned that sometimes you will create things that you later wonder what you were thinking when you created it, ha! I’ve learned that it’s ok to not know the answer to everything and to consider myself a lifelong learner instead of an expert or someone who thinks that they know everything. The biggest thing that I’m proud of, is that EP has connected with so many amazingly beautiful humans who are wearing EP pieces all around the world.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really believe in luck, but rather that we are constantly pulling and repealing energy to and from us based on our thoughts and intentions. For me, I know that what is for me will never miss me. I know that there are many good things in store for me, and Evie Peeve, and that there are also hard and challenging lessons as well. Negative experiences do feel uncomfortable and painful at times, but they can also be used to fortify and to edify us as well.
