Meet Evonee Mason

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evonee Mason.

Hi Evonee, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Modeling is my passion. I received my first modeling gig when I was 11. I was chosen by a talent scout that came to my school looking for a dark-skinned child for their commercial. The commercial seemed fun at the time. All I did was model and laugh because I couldn’t read my lines correctly (basically my acting skills were not up to par), but as l got older I realized that commercial was quite racist. So, that is why it never aired on tv. My mother didn’t let me think about modeling again after that. They had me in a halter top and a mini skirt and did my hair to look like scary spice because they couldn’t do my hair… Fast forward to 18, I tried to join Jon Casablancas, but they told me that I needed modeling classes before they decide to choose me as a model or not. They told me the price and it was in the 1000s. So, I politely declined. It wasn’t until my 30s that I started modeling again. I started off modeling with a clothing line called Virtuo Gear. I helped run the company as well by recruiting and training models. We did runway modeling of our line and performances in a local show called FTM Fashion Week in Jacksonville, NC. I then ventured off after I was chosen by an agency called Hass Modeling and Talent Agency or Hass Entertainment, located in Raleigh, NC. After that, my career took off. I have been in more shows than I can count. From all over NC, NC Fashion Week, to California Fashion Week, NY Fashion Week, ATL Fashion Week, and even Virtual Fashion shows due to the pandemic. I have done print, video, high fashion, and commercial modeling. My next goals in my modeling career is to model in other states that I haven’t been to yet and to go International. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. Life happens all the time and you can’t prevent it. My struggle was I wasn’t the right size for many people looking for models. After I got pregnant, I gained weight so I was told I wasn’t thin enough or the right look that they are looking for, or I wasnt tall enough. But I never gave up. I lost weight and now I have curves. So now that plus size modeling is a popular thing and they have petite modeling now, I fit somewhere in the middle. I’m considered a curvy petite model, but I walk in Fashion shows that don’t have a height or weight requirement. I can run with the best of them.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I model professionally. I specialize in Print, Video, High Fashion and Commercial modeling. I am known for my name which is Mz. Jaguar. When I did performances in fashion shows, I would rap my own songs that I co-produced. I am known for my work ethic. I work hard at my craft, and I want to put the best product out in the universe. So, when it’s playtime great but when it’s time to get serious Mz. Jaguar comes out. I’m recognized from the way I walk in shows and how I carry myself. I’m very helpful backstage and I’m very approachable. My skin tone is recognized first. I’m proud of myself for not giving up on a dream I had since I was a little girl. What sets me apart from others is my work ethic and it is definitely noticed by everyone I come across from designers to producers to photographers. I work hard, and I want to always give them my best. I have been published in many magazines.
