Today we’d like to introduce you to Fabian Simpson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
How I started on my journey as an artist began with the death of my parents, grandmothers and friends at the age of six. Death had become a friend of mine! I was so lost, detached, and unbalanced but grounded by the love of my aunt alongside the help of my village. If I was a seed, my village would be the soil and my aunt would be my sunshine feeding me the love and support needed for my character development in this arch of life. On the outside of dealing with all this loss, while growing up trying to figuring it all out, I need a way to escape this world of the void so I decided, outside of spending time with my friends, family and older brother that I was going to do art. My love for starting with Saturday morning cartoons is in the 90s! From watching Fox Kids, to Nickelodeon and ending it with the Disney channel. Let us not forget about ABC family and PBS kids! I found joy through animation or real kids having a fun time doing wacky things.
At that time, everything felt at a distance when it came to playing with toys or being a kid. If I had to put into words how I felt at that time I was in trapped in the eye of a Florida hurricane with no way out! Therefore, I begin to figure out an outlet of expiration. I begin drawing circles all over the paper while watching Pokémon. At this time, now I am hooked! The storyline starts with the introduction of Pokémon while introducing Ash Catchem on how he will become the world’s greatest Pokémon master. Becoming a Pokémon master at the age of 10 years old requires you to leave your town and set off into the world of manhood as well as adulthood. From there, I was hooked on attempting to trace, draw or sketch my favorite Pokémon, superheroes, etc. My grandmother, before her passing, would always feed my imagination for creating art with coloring books. My foundation was already set but all I had to do was build my skillset from there. Throughout school, I was scared to show my work and very private of what I allowed others to see but I was always encouraged by my cousins and brother to not care of the way others viewed me but to do what made me happy in creating thus blossoming me as an artist!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a graceful struggle with growing myself as an artist. Being completely transparent, before moving to Atlanta, throughout my undergrad degree, devising a plan to be impactful to the Atlanta art culture was surface-level for me. While in school, I was always surrounded by really talented artists such as Thomas Gleen with @RocketCityCustomer, Karina Razalas with @Neverletyourtalentsgotowaste, and Tanesha Childs Photography@zombiefame. I learned how to use the power of my imagination to help me create my style of art in addition to knowing what artists block through group critique, constructive criticism, and a safe space to grow. I lived in the art studio and library to overcome obstacles now a day an artist. Social media is a very powerful tool if used correctly but can also be a double edge sword of comparing your life work to another artist’s style or craft. Therefore, I always try to limit that by going to people and bird-watching to overcome creative challenges.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
With me, it is always my goal to help my clients develop strong brands with every graphic endeavor I undertake. I believe in creating solid, long-lasting relationships with my clients, building up my portfolio, and coming up with innovative ways to connect my clients with their target markets. I pride myself in being able to truly listen to what it is my clients are seeking to achieve and working with them to custom-craft their projects to take their brand to the next level. “Twenty-Eight Flavors ” is a brand-centered design company, where I believe developing a strong brand and visual identity is a priority compared to being “trendy” or coming up with a quick gimmick. I strive to help my clients develop visual identities that will have longevity and mainstay, giving them a competitive edge to help them make an incredible impression.
What I am known for mostly for the storytelling of life events of the naked truths of the knowledge of self, self-improvement and self-help therapy for example, mask-like features, sexual figures, powerful quotes or self-reflection painting to connect with the inner person inside of us all. Art is the power of creating something to generate a connection between my deep dark emotions with yours! I specialize in acrylic on canvas, graphic design and mixed media work a lot of times. I also make my canvas from scratch as well. What makes me most proud right now is that I am on a major stride in growing my network to have my art in more homes, debuting my Artist podcast and painting with family. What sets me apart from my peers is my pride in craftsmanship, being competitive to learn more every day to be a better artist and the love of creating with other like-minded people.
