Meet Destini Hines

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destini Hines.

Destini, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My name is Destini Hines, A self-taught MUA (Make Up Artist) With a black owned cosmetics line that goes by the name FACE By Destini. I’ve always loved playing in makeup and doing my friends & family’s faces since I was young. My mom Keisha Allen and friends would tell my i was really good and should take it serious and actually make money doing something I love. So, I started taking clients which led to the start of my cosmetics line. Launching at the end of September! Today I am booked and busy, and it’s only going to go up from here. Once I launch, I predict that I could be the first black owned cosmetics line mua who is a millionaire.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest struggle for me was becoming confident with my craft. I doubted myself so much in the beginning because Atlanta is such a competitive city, with so many good MUA’s! A bigger struggle for me was starting my cosmetic line, with the help of my mother, Keisha Allen. We had to talk to many vendors order lots of samples, decide on which products were better than the other while spending thousands of dollars on just samples. Not including the thousands of dollars paid for the products we decided on and waiting for them to be customized. My launch has been pushed back two months because of covid slowing up the delivery process of my products!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
FACE By Destini is a cosmetics line and also my brand as a mua. On the mua side I specialize in full face beats, glitter, glam and making people feel beautiful. On the cosmetics side we specialize in everything! We will be selling every make up product you can think of including, foundation, highlight, eyeshadow pallets, lipstick, lip gloss, setting powder, contour pallets. Etc. What I am most proud of is my growth, I’ve come such a long way in such a short period of time and in 2021 it’s only going to take off even more! What sets me apart from most others is that I am BLACK OWNED! Self-taught, self-made and I’m going to make it happened! For all skin tones from the palest white to the darkest brown!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was super bubbly, sweet and down to earth! I’d give you the shirt off my back, But I never let anybody walk all over me I’ve always stood up for myself! I was a cheerleader, very popular! I did a tv show on MTV in the 12th grade! I loved makeup! I always wanted to wear it, being a cheerleader and a dancer, we had to wear make up so that was the BEST! I helped everybody with their make up all the time! I’d love to get my make up done for any little event! Prom, homecoming, cheer competitions. ANYTHING!
