Meet Fayelynn Cherrier of Faye’s Massage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fayelynn Cherrier.

Hi Fayelynn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After moving here from California, I needed a hobby. Started ATA Karate and wanted something more intense. I wanted to learn self-defense and found a Mixed Martial Arts gym to train it. Shortly after joining, I became addicted to Jiu Jitsu. Started competing regularly and realized I needed a job that I could make my own schedule with. I was serving and working multiple jobs to make ends meet, decided to go to Massage Therapy school, Atlanta School of Massage, located in Dunwoody, Ga. Graduated and have been working for myself since. Loving the process and people I have met along the way. Jiu Jitsu has taught me how to break people and massage school has taught me how to put them back together.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like everything in life, there were struggles. The main struggle was financial for me. I was on my own trying to make ends meet and working multiple jobs. I kept changing my mind in my career paths and just didn’t know what I wanted to do and who I wanted to be. Luckily, I was able to connect with some special people along the way through Jiu Jitsu. They helped me stay positive and kept a positive mindset along the way. While working multiple jobs and making ends meet, I found a job that I could work on the weekends with a flexible schedule, making it a little easier to go to school full-time. Massage Therapy has helped me shape my life in a way where I am able to follow my dreams.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Faye’s Massage?
I am a Licensed Massage Therapist. I also have a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. I graduated Atlanta School of Massage in August 2016. I love working with athletes and would like to sponsor my own athletes one day through massage and/or monies. I specialize in Deep Tissue, Trigger Point Therapy, and Myofascial Release (MFR). I work out of Ga Sports Massage, my apartments, and outcalls to client’s homes. Since I do not work the typical 9-5 Monday-Friday job, I am able to have the energy to provide clients with a personalized massage. I believe everybody’s body is different and should be treated as so. Each massage is going to be different with different techniques. I love learning new therapies and techniques. I do not think one treatment fits all.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Networking for me helped me grow my business. Putting myself out there, working events and working for free or at discounted rates until I had enough clients to be more successful. I worked a lot of chair massage events with chiropractors, vendors, and local events. I was able to connect with others and hand out my business cards. Having a mentor was a great way to help my business grow. It is very hard and scary to do on your own, so having someone guide you in what worked and didn’t work for them was very beneficial. I knew a woman that did Jiu Jitsu that massaged and would ask her for advice and she was very open, honest, and helpful.
