Today we’d like to introduce you to Feria Farness.
Hi Feria, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began writing at a young age. When I got to college, I realized how impactful but stressful it is. I knew I wasn’t the only one battling not academic stress but mental and emotional stress and I wanted to let other girls that look like me know that they are not alone and for those getting ready to start their college journey that we have been there before as well. Anything that I spoke about in my book “The Blackprint” is something that has happened in real life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Writing “The Blackprint” itself has been a smooth journey. It actually felt good to be able to put my thoughts out knowing that I can be helping someone. College itself has been a rocky road but every lesson is a blessing and I am grateful for it all.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a double major at The University of Alabama in Secondary education and English. I am known for my book and being outgoing. I am very proud of how I have overcome every obstacle thrown my way. I am beyond determined, inspiring and motivated. I am a firm believer that through God all things are possible and if you can vision it, you can achieve it. I am an advocate for black women and our success and a role model to those around me in some way.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters to me most is being my most authentic self and being proud about it. There has been times where I was trying to please everyone around me that I did not take the time to think about what it is that I want. I have realized when you live your most authentic life gracefully, you attract people that you are connected to in some way. I am a people person and I enjoy being around others that I learn from and relate too. Being true to who I am has opened many opportunities for me and allowed me to stand out from the crowd.
