Today we’d like to introduce you to Fernando Gomez.
Hi Fernando, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
To begin, I am born and raised in Denver, Colorado. As many don’t know I was born on May 5th, 2000. To many everyone knows it as Cinco De Mayo. Since I was about six years old, my parents and younger sister would go to the Lowrider Magazine Super Show in Denver at the Denver Coliseum and/or in Pueblo, Colorado at the Pueblo Fairgrounds. Back in the day, the Lowrider Super Show would have hundreds and thousands of vehicles from all over the United States in one arena competing for an award! I would always go compete in shows and come out with 1st, 2nd or 3rd place. Till this day, I still do! While I am there, I would always take pictures and look at everyone’s vehicles and admire the artwork! As each year goes by and the older I got, I would start to fully understand the Lowrider scene a lot more and start to become recognized. To this day, the Lowrider scene and Photography scene know me as Dizzy!
As I got older, I would start to pick up a few hobbies! I started to draw, do some photography and most importantly, graduate high school! I graduated high school in 2018 from Alameda International Jr/Sr High school. I eventually had so many hobbies I loved to do it became hard to do all of them I love. I did art, photography, etched mirrors, making stickers, Iron-ons, car shows and concerts! Till this day, I have all the talents still but focus on only a few! The year of 2018 is when I got my first big break! A man by the name of Mondo Delgado messaged me on Facebook asking to do a photo shoot for a magazine known as Best of Show Magazine. After about 15+ years, my Lowrider bicycle finally got recognized. My Lowrider Bicycle was featured in the Best of Show magazine ad in the center fold of The issue in June of 2018! Watching him do the photo shoot had inspired me to wanna step up my game and do photography a lot more! After the photo shoot, I went and purchased some camera equipment! I then began to mess around with my camera and fully understand what everything does! It honestly took me about a year to finally understand my equipment. I was all self-taught.
As the Year 2019 went by I would shoot pictures at Car Shows and Senior Pictures. In 2020, I met a man by the name of Ignacio Martinez out of Pueblo, Colorado. This man introduced me into the Concert scene! I would do all his photography work from his Car shows/ concerts in exchange for a media pass! As the year 2020 goes on, he gave me tips and advice on how to properly send emails to Big artists and their management to shoot pictures for their Concert tour stops in Denver! I tried and tried my hardest all throughout 2020 but only got a few concerts booked! In December of 2020, I got 1 of my biggest concert yet booked! It was a Christmas Bash. Performances by Legendary Twista, Dogg Pound Gangsta (DPG) and Bone Thugs and Harmony at the Fillmore Auditorium. 1st and the best concert I had did yet! As 2021 began, I started to get more responses back! I began to work with big artists such as Flesh n Bone, Twista, Paul Wall, Mike Jones, Saucewalka and the Crew, 69 Boyz, Krayzie Bone, Kap G, YG, Kreepa, WC, Spice 1, Gangsta Boo and so many other artists. Then in September of 2021, I met a great young Women by the name of Trish Morabito. We had talked and she told me she was a promoter. I began to tell her that I was a photographer and Graphic designer.
The next thing I knew, we began to work together! Here very first show she through together was Flesh N Bone on October 7th, 2021 at Herman’s Hideaway in Denver, Colorado! I did all her photography for the show along with creating her flyers! I knew this could be a big a big deal! She put her trust in me and we made it happen! The concert was a success and such a big turnout that we talked some more business! Ever since that day, we been working together. Till this day, we still continue to bring our big artists. She brought out Twista, Spice 1, Gangsta Boo, Krayzie Bone, Gorilla Zoe, Do or Die, and out most upcoming concert legendary Kid Frost! Trish also has to kids that perform as well. They go by the name of Sik Tempos! They are up-and-coming artists who are become to be big artists here in Colorado and Florida! Check them out on YouTube! I wanna give a big shoutout to everyone who has helped be to where I am today. This wouldn’t be possible without you guys. Thank you so much. I’m the year of 2022 I am still doing big things and continuing my photography. I just recently started my own custom vehicle Magazine called “Custom Creations.”
As of right now, it is based on all types of custom vehicles in Colorado! I plan on possibly switching up the name of the magazine and making it a worldwide thing! On September 3rd, 2022, I threw my first Kickback Car show to introduce my magazine. It was a huge success. Had over 150+ cars, bikes, trucks and motorcycles in attendance. I will be having another show next year in the summer of 2023! Stay tuned! Most importantly, I want to thank VoyageATL Magazine for giving me an opportunity to be featured in they’re magazine. I appreciate everyone and everything that I have accomplished and hope to continue the success! Thank you and check me out on all platforms.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, my journey has not been a smooth road! You will have lots of bumps in the road all the time but depending on the person, some will fight through them and others will give up! Some of my struggles where not properly understanding my equipment. It took me about a year to finally understand all my equipment! I’ve got scammed on a few $1,000 camera lenses. It was a huge loss and it’s sucked for a while but I managed to get through them hard times and continue my passion! There will never be a smooth road in anything someone wants to do. It’s all a matter of how you handle each and every situation. If your committed and passionate in what you love you will keep pushing forward! Don’t ever give up.
We’ve been impressed with Gomez Photography and Custom Creations Magazine, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a photographer based in Denver, Colorado. I also do Graphic Design work. I do all sorts of work such as Logos, Flyers, business cards, and photography! Along the way, I get to work with big well known artists. A lot of people from the Concert world to my magazine know me as Dizzy! Everyone has a camera but everyone has a different vision. I personally try to capture different angles and points of view than what we see every day. I personally think that’s what makes me apart from others but that’s just a personal opinion. I want everyone to know that just because I am in Denver Colorado, doesn’t mean you can’t message me to get work done! I guarantee clean quality work with fast turnaround times! I love what I do and appreciate everyone who supports what I do.
What does success mean to you?
Success to me is someone who would do anything and everything to reach their goals! Success will always come with ups and downs! Success is someone who is willing to fail at some point or another but will continue to push themselves to get back up and keep pushing! It may not be easy but if you really want it you will work 2 times harder to get what you want.
