Today we’d like to introduce you to Fikayo Olatoto.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Since middle school, I’ve always known that I wanted to be an entrepreneur and be my own boss whether it was in clothing or not. I remember looking at Virgil Abloh with his brand Pyrex at the time and A$AP Bari with VLONE and seeing the influence and movement, they were starting with their clothes. This made me realize I could do the same thing and start a new wave with my ideas. It wasn’t until 9th grade that I started planning out my own clothing line. I didn’t have the income or supplies to actually start making pieces so I would always sketch out my ideas and think about what I wanted my brand to stand for etc. Fast forward to senior year, now 17 I finally decided to start taking things serious and make it public. I knew $IN would get attention because it isn’t like any other regular brand it represents a lot. Suddenly my brand started getting noticed outside of school and friends and started catching the eye of other people. It has only been about four months so we’re growing more and more everyday.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Any entrepreneur can tell you that starting your own business isn’t easy or straight forward at all. At first, it took me some time to learn the basics such as photoshop and being your idea or vision to life. You can’t just rush things. A lot also goes into finding a reliable vendor which is something I’m still working on as well. There are a lot of things I had to learn as I progressed. It’s a trial and error type of deal.
Sin Studios – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
$IN is a fashion brand that I made for all the creatives and the youth. Whether you draw, paint, model, film, etc. when you wear on the pieces, you should feel like you can do anything. As a company, we’re most proud of how far we’ve come in such a short amount of time knowing we just went public seriously about four months ago. $IN isn’t just clothes, it’s art, a movement, a lifestyle.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far has to be the influence in having on people already. A lot of people have told me that I inspire them and get they look up to me. That’s what keeps me going.
