Today we’d like to introduce you to Chiedozie Osondu, Kwashee Totimeh, Justin Watson, Mike Valeus, Mamadou Thiam, Djeneba Danioko, Jean-Claude Canal and Buchi Osondu.
The Fine Wine Series began in Philadelphia as a social experience for the city’s tastemakers who were yearning for something different and more sophisticated. The series then expanded to New York like any other humble event with a little over 100 guests in an art gallery in Brooklyn. The idea was to provide attendees with the experience of a wine tasting along with a more social and energetic atmosphere fitting to it’s demographic. We were able to provide guests with an assortment of wines selected by Fine Wine Series Partner Justin Watson, who at the time was employed in a wine shop in the Tribeca area of New York.
With any type of progress, there’re always obstacles and challenges faced. Some of the biggest challenges we’ve faced and still face today are partnering with venues who can accommodate our event’s demand and still fit its aesthetic. We receive push back from venues all the time because they aren’t familiar with working with our formula. In addition, the event we’re doing isn’t one that a lot of spaces are conventionally used to putting on.
Please tell us about Fine Wine Series. What should we know?
The Fine Wine Series aims to bring together a mature audience of young professionals who are interested in indulging in both wine and R&B music. We create a safe haven for professionals to come together, socialize and have fun with those they can relate to. Our mission is to expand the palette of our audience into trying different varieties of wine and leaving with an experience like no other. We’d like to provide our guests with an experience of fashion-forward professionals enjoying the finer things in life while still being comfortable enough to have fun doing so.
We handle the entire curation of the event which includes: venue selection, promotional ad designs, installations, vendor selection, wine selection, choice of music and DJs, etc.
Our event is well known for bringing together millennials in an educational and fun environment where they step out in their finest outfits, indulge in wines while experiencing nostalgia through timelines R&B played by our official DJ Canal among others.
We’re most proud to say that we’ve grown a very organic following without any gimmicks. Also that we’re also not only able to expose our audience to a different experience but even educate them on wine and the benefits that come with it. Since we’ve begun this event we noticed an increase in the amount of millennials our age consuming wine and taking the initiative to learn more about wines. We are EXTREMELY proud to say we’ve shifted our culture slightly in that sense.
What sets us apart from others is the fact that we’re conscious about the event experience that we’re delivering and don’t compromise that experience for any reason. We know what we are and why our audience loves what we do and understand the importance of continuously delivering on that.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Our friends and family definitely deserve credit. Without their support and motivation, it’d be hard to continue doing what we do with the challenges and sacrifices we face consistently. We have people that truly believe in our vision of becoming the World’s Largest Wine Event Series and it shows through their support.
