Today we’d like to introduce you to Peeka Trone.
Peeka, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started out as and still am a professional model. I always had a love for photography every since I was a child.I also happen to be a professional recording artist in a trio called Lyric. I became best friends with one of my favorite fashion photographers who had been hired by my record label to do the first promo shots for my group’s first album and she expressed an interest in being a professional singer/songwriter like myself. We agreed to teach one another what the other wanted to explore. There started my apprenticeship with a pro photographer. Since I am a professional model, she often used me as the subject of her photography and in turn taught me a lot about lighting and on location sets. After a few years working with her, I offered to do shots for composite cards for fellow models at my then modeling agency. The agency loved the shots, and I was then sent models for the purpose of building their portfolios and composite cards. Because of my record deal, I ended up moving to Atlanta and while recording my group’s first album, modeling and continuing my work as a modeling instructor two major companies, I decided to start my own official photography business in Atlanta with is now known as Peeka Trone Photography. http://www.peekatrone.com I started the company in 2000.
Has it been a smooth road?
In the beginning, after moving to Atlanta, I had to build a new client base. I thought it would be a struggle, but actually, my connections as a modeling instructor and model always allowed for new clientele. I employed a graphic designer to design my logo and we then created business cards and picture cards to help promote my business. He also did my website.
What’s the hardest part of your job?
The hardest part of my job a fashion photographer is making sure my subjects keep their energy and confidence up no matter what the conditions are on location during a shoot. I need to be energetic and encouraging too for my clients so they can feel confident about what we’re trying to achieve together. A great photo shoot is really a result of good teamwork between the subject and the photographer. It should be a fun experience even though we are both working.
How do you define success?
I personally define success as the achievement of goals reached no matter what tries to get in the way, and it also feels successful when you can be an example that particular goals can be reached. I remember wanting to be a photographer and starting the journey to do so. Now, as people come to me to get the shots they need to start and continue their careers, I am a photographer, a professional photographer.
So, what should we be on the lookout for, what’s next in store for you?
In the future, I plan to shoot an artistic photography coffee table book that I am proud of. I’m always working in the arts through different mediums, so I know I will continue to do so. My next photography exhibit will be artistic shots of models, and all of the makeup, hair styling, art directing, styling, lighting, and photography will all be my work.
