Meet G Blanco

Today we’d like to introduce you to G Blanco. Them and their team share their story with us below:

G. Blanco whose real name is Gerri Watkins born in Cincinnati, Ohio a true 80’s baby ..Blanco has always been in love with music since a little girl being the youngest of three she would be influenced by her mom who used to play barry white around the clock and her brother and sister who use to play 90’s hip hop and r&b. Hardcore was the genre that stuck out the most, she began writing songs and poems to express herself and an outlet for things she struggled with.

In this male-dominated industry G. Blanco wants to make her mark and show the world how dope she really is. Her sound is raw, street and cant be compared to no other artist. g.blanco has put in work over the years she has been nominated for an Ohio hip-hop award (under her previous artist name dramaqueen), promoted artist showcases to help not only her but other artists in her city gain exposure and also dropping three full-length mixtapes. In her music, she expresses things she went through as well as fun party tracks. Taking time off of music because of devastating life events the most recent was losing her father on her birthday 2019, she realized music is her therapy and it helps her get through whatever obstacles she is facing I always come to atl because that’s where I get love from with my music this summer I am relocating to make that move I have come out with four projects recently “I’m dope in real life” “cartagena talk” “love trap” “5;9” being the latest my new project “floor 29 ” is set to drop on 01/29 /2022

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This road has been far from smooth, I lost my daughter’s dad to gun violence the same year I lost my mom, I lost my dad on my birthday as I said previous stated sometimes as an artist things in your personal can stop you from making music. On August 8th, 2021 I was assaulted by my former producer /ex-fiancé which has inspired me to start up a foundation for battered women called “the floor 29 project “Not only has my personal road been rough. Being a dark skin (thicker) female artist has its cons, people tend to judge you before they hear, I’m different I don’t follow the trends I just be me in this male-dominated industry; they expect all us female rappers to be butt naked or sexual to sell. That can make the road a little bumpy but I’m going to ride until the wheels fall off.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a rap recording artist, I am a writer and I also like to promote artist showcases in my city. I feel like what sets me apart from other artists is that I just be me and I make Dope Sh*t.

What were you like growing up?
Every since I was a little girl, I loved to create things whether it was paint, arts and crafts whatever. I have a company called Dope Trays where I make custom ashtrays /rolling trays. I love all things art and creative and it’s been that way still till this day.
