Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Kirven.
Gabrielle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
So, I dip and dab into a lot of things actually; my job/business is in social media that’s what my occupation is, however, I also act, and I’m also an influencer. So, let’s get started on how I got into all of this and how now I travel to ATL consistently.
Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be an actress so when I got to college, I figured I would get a degree in something that would allow me to be on TV and still get paid while doing it. My mom wouldn’t let me get a degree in acting so I had to choose a real profession. So, I decided to pursue Film & Television come to find out you needed to have a 2.75 GPA at the time to get into the program and I steadily could not get a 2.75 GPA so I decided that I couldn’t wait anymore because the more I couldn’t get into the program, the more it would keep pushing me back to graduation. So, I changed my major to Journalism instead… turns out you had to take a grammar test to get into that school in which I missed it by one point. :/ So, at this point, I was highly devastated. My thoughts in my head were “Gabby what are you going to do?” I knew there was nothing else I wanted to get a degree to let anyone do for the rest of my life so I got a degree in Integrative Studies in which combines three majors and turns it into one. This was something I wasn’t planning on pursuing but was the only option in order to graduate on time.
So, after graduating, another hardship, I struggled with was finding a job in the field of Journalism. I was surrounded by colleague and friends who already had a job lined up, working in their field… and this was an extremely hard period for me because for one I was already bummed about my degree and two couldn’t find a job I was truly interested in. Finally, after applying for jobs in the journalism field and being told I would have to move to a smaller market and start off with low pay, I decided to go into business.
I used any experience I had to change my entire resume up to make it more business focused. I started looking for jobs in the business field and found one that said Social Media Intern. At the time, I had no clue there was a job to do social media so I applied even though, at the time, I wasn’t really looking for an internship, more-so a full-time job. I ended up getting the position and from there, everything is pretty much history. After three months of interning with them, I was hired full-time and have been working with the company ever since.
After learning the ropes and tricks of social media, I decided to create a side business in doing something where I help other brands and people build/manage their social media too.
So, overall, I’m just your overall one of a kind girl, I act, I do influencer stuff like collaborating with brands, and I do social media.
Around this time, I was a sophomore and this experience is what caused me to get into blogging. I felt the emotions and experience I was going through was relatable and could help someone feeling the same way get through it. So, I started a blog titled A bit of Gabs because it shares a little of me and my life. The purpose of the blog is to inspire cultivate and motivate.
So, after graduating, I couldn’t find a job for three months, another hard period in my life. During this time, I kinda pushed a lot of people away because this was my future and I couldn’t find a job and I was surrounded by friends and peers who knew what they wanted and had a job already lined up.
Please tell us about your work.
Okay, so I specialize in social media. My business is called “Build your Social Media” by Gabrielle Kirven.
I am known for being an influencer/blogger in my community.
What I am most proud of as a company is how far I have come. I would have never expected my business to take off the way it did. I get to travel with my clients and do something I truly enjoy. all while making money while doing it. And I have met so many great people from connecting with others via social media.
I think what sets me apart from others and the simple fact that I do, do a lot. Name someone else’s page you click on and know they post acting, blogging, and run a social media business all in one. I am unique in my own way.
