Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Mitchell-Brown.
Hi Gabrielle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began working with inner city youth at the age of thirteen. Though I was considered a youth, God favored me to be able to reach others my age. After losing a sister to cancer, my heart longed to help young ladies. So I birthed GLOWgirl Women’s Empowerment Movement. From there, I wanted a closer relationship with young ladies ages 6-16 so I formed My Sisters Keeper Mentoring Program.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The hardest part about having passion is, it typically comes from pain. Yes, I love being around young ladies and grooming them but sometimes I meet young ladies that remind me so much of my sister and grief will hit me out of nowhere. I have to remind myself of my assignment and why I do what I do. I know that she would want me to press on.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Aside from ministry and mentoring, I specialize in wedding and event decor and also makeup. Glitz and Glam Wedding and Event Planning launched in 2021 and Glam By Gab Make up and Lashes Launched in 2019.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Networking can get you places that money can’t. I also feel that even mentors need mentors. A friend once told me, “Even if you don’t know the mentor personally, watch them…watch their character and how they move.” I have mentors for different things, my marriage, my business, my ministry. Aside from that, I watch Sarah Jakes daily. She reminds me so much of myself. So I listen and try to learn from her life.
