Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Robinson Dukes.
Hi Gabrielle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a young girl, I’ve always been told I was destined for greatness. From the age of 4, all through high school, I embraced the beauty world. Coming from a mother who done hair for many people around the neighborhood, I took after her! As a young child, I wanted to do anything creative. I’ve dreamed of modeling, interior designer, an architect , musician, I’ve wanted to do it all! Throughout my high school years, I used hair as a hobby turned business. I knew once I graduated, cosmetology school would be the next stop. I experienced plenty of trials and tribulations while trying to complete school, so with that, a two year time frame quickly turned into a five year time frame. After losing my grandmother, I decided I had to take it serious and make it important to finish school in her memory! I completely turned things up for many years, I can recall working 16+ hour days from the house as a stylist. I began having so many clients, from all walks of life! In that time, I met a client who turned me to music and brought me into the studio. From that first studio session, I knew I wanted to take on music! Since 2020, I’ve released several singles along with a mixtape project and another project in the works for this year. I know that no matter what route life takes me in, I will be great and greatness is in store for me. With keeping God at the head of my life, my wife, mother, sister, and niece as my biggest support system, it all will work out!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While in cosmetology school, I lost my grandfather and my grandmother. Those losses alone took a toll on me and definitely set me back, but it also made me fight harder to win! I’ve battled with depression, anxiety, denial, all over the years while trying to remain confident and strong. The battles you fight within yourself are sometimes the hardest battles you’ll ever fight!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m very well known for my cosmetology business, Gold’N Grip LLC. I’ve always enjoyed being a home-based hair stylist, but I’ve also worked in salons. Celebrity clientele has always been the goal for me, and I have had my share of that but I’d love to expand it more.
As an artist, Millz, I want music to go as far as the sky would let me! I enjoy music, people enjoy my music, I think it’s as fun as you make it!
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I definitely use social media to promote myself! The apps like Instagram , Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok, those help me interact and grow with my fans or potential clients. I had an interview on a podcast before, and that was actually amazing promotion for my music! Major shoutout to ‘Coldbeer HotLiquor’ podcast based out of Anderson SC.
