Today we’d like to introduce you to Gavin Frederick.
Gavin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Stickfigure started in the 90’s. It is a bunch of things under one name.
It is a wholesale company and mail order for vinyl, CDs, cassettes and a few DVDs. It is also a label group.
I started releasing vinyl and cd’s under the name Stickfigure in the mid 90’s. Most of the artists on Stickfigure were or are from Atlanta.
In the late eighties, I created a bunch of different labels for marketing reasons. I found that it is easier to promote and market music releases if the label has similar artists on the roster. Most music fans tend to favor certain music genres and it is better for a music label to focus on a few specific genres of music that appeal to the music fans that like those specific genres in order to help promote artists to the audience that will appreciate the artists music the best.
The Stickfigure label group consists of Stickfigure Recordings which is the flag ship label. Stickfigure does not have a specific sound due to its history of releasing over 100 releases that other than most of the artists being from Atlanta do NOT musically have a lot in common. Since Stickfigure is an eclectic label as a whole it does not really appeal to a specific genre. Stickfigure has released albums by such notables as Deerhunter & Snowden. Stickfigure has released new albums by Outer Gods, Sailor Winters, Warning Light and In Sonitus Lux over the past couple of years.
The most active new label of the label group is The Gospel Of Rhythm Recordings (www.thegospelofrhythmrecordings.com) I released a couple of albums by Baby Baby as well as a few other artists.
Adair Park Recordings (www.adairparkrecordings.com) is the “indie rock” label and I release the Wowser Bowser album on Adair Park.
Fieldhouse Recordings (www.fieldhouserecordings.com) is the singer-songwriter label and I released an album by Nerdkween on that label.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The music business is a tough business. The biggest struggle as a small independent label is promoting the music and hoping that music fans will pay attention & like what is released.
Please tell us about Stickfigure Recordings.
The label group tends to specialize in artists / musicians that I think are very creative and interesting with a focus on local music. I have worked with musicians who are not local but I prefer to work with local musicians.
I am very proud of the fact that Stickfigure has been releasing new music for more than 20 years.
